We all know the drill, especially if you solo. Lead enemies off from the extraction zone and run back at the last seconds to find it totally clear. I have been doing a lot of solo runs on Gold against Cerberus recently and one thing that I noticed was that Phantoms are now more or less camping the extraction. After the patch Phantoms started to camp hack circles but I didn't realize they also camped at the extraction zone.

It makes things harder (and definately more annoying) and that is both positive and negative I guess. I guess it was the addition of the Dragoon that made BW change Phantoms behavior like this, Dragoons chasing you around the map during hacks and extraction while Phantoms are just waiting for you to run straight into them.

Anyone else noticed these silent changes to gameplay? Is it good or bad you think? Phantoms must be psychic in the way that they just know that I have a shuttle coming in at a certain spot on the map to pick me up :P

I noticed this..

now I always whip out the Missile launcher on the run to extraction.
(although the scorp will do in a pinch for 5 secs of stunlock)

*edit*
theres def some phantom dragoon love going on they're always near each other

Phantoms aren't the only ones doing that.

I think it's a terrible decision from Bioware. Leading the enemies away is a good, logical strategy. Making the enemies camp there, waiting to finish you in the last second is f*cking cheap.

We asked for smarter AI.
Apparently forgetting that smarter AI will camp vital objectives - as that is the thing a player would do in the same situation.

Yes, I noticed them as well. Yet, I still find that tactic to be more useful than just run and hold the LZ. Which is pretty much impossible while soloing.
Anyway, the absolutely most annoying one between these changes are phantoms camping the 4 devices. It didn't happen often to me, but when it did... Man, the pain.

I always save a rocket or two for extraction so remember when the poo hits the fan- destroy all the things

Phantoms have always been sneaky buggers...
I still find starting wave as far away from the extraction zone then fighting your way to to the zone still works pretty much all the (unless it really hits the fan).
As does the fighting retreat where you let them chase you all the way back to extraction making them pay for every meter in blood.
I find the fighting retreat significantly more common since the new stuff. Not complaining, it's really fun imo - 'tis just missing dramatic music.

Though if your in the mood, stick on the extraction zone with friends and hold to the last - quite epic

I noticed the same, but 'tis still the best strategy. Holding the LZ is flatout impossible, at least on Gold+.

Yeah. How have people still not realised this. I get lone survivors or partial extractions as people still try to hold the LZ even after I'm telling them to join me at the other end of the map. Some are absolutely atrocious in particular like Giant or Ghost.

Lately I've been strict about saving at least one missile or two specifically for extraction as well as some med gel or ops packs. Sometimes I have a completely clear extraction zone due to my team being fantastic. Other times...its borderline critical mission failure and I have to bomb away.

It can be held on Gold and full extraction possible, admittedly you can only jsut get a full extraction and it is by no means guaranteed.
Try it with a few friends (y'know, guys you can trust) and it's quite fun, in the whole crazy/hellish kind of way. You'll be in for a laugh if they're mic'd up too

When you have 4 good players it is generally very easy to hold the extraction on Gold, but it is very hard to do when you play solo or with PUG's.

I'm usually the last on the LZ so I haven't noticed this.
I did notice that Collectors will happily make the LZ or hack circle their love nest.

We asked for smarter AI, not psychic AI. There's really no way for the enemies to know that you are about to get extracted or doing a device objective, yet they still camp at those spots.

Oh it can be done, but I play UUG in PUGs, so I never take the chance. You just need excellent damage-dealers wrecking face intelligently and in a coordinated manner. Barely ever seen that in a PUG.

I noticed the same. Enemies camp objectives now, which I really don't like. It would be all right if they didn't respawn right next to it if you kill them, but since they do, I don't think it was a fair change.

That said, during extraction, it's still not a good idea to stay at the LZ. Dying because you've been overrun is easier than dying because of a few camping Phantoms.

Three engineers all deploying turrets at a pizza delivery point with a phantom in tow. D:

Then later Atlases at the extraction point. It essentially makes extraction a more intense hacking mission which I'm still not sure what I think about that.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it cheap.

Then do a solo on Gold and see for yourself ;)

its really not. Weapons and powers are so strong at the moment that you and a friend can prety much hold it with a few missiles and focues fire.

I'd rather not waste my missiles holding the LZ when its much easier to kite the Praetorians or Banshees to the other end of the map.

Plus, forget anyone in PUGs remembering they have missiles or knowing what focussed fire is.
