Anders despises Blood magic and those who use it. He would have never lasted in Tevinter.

Seems like a lot of people are assuming I meant "Why didn't Anders go to Tevinter if he wanted to be free?"
What I really was asking was "Why didn't Anders fight Tevinter if he hates opression so much?"

Ander's doesn't hate oppression - he hates not getting his way.

Anders only cares about oppression for "his" people - and he only cares about it when "his" lover is being oppressed.

He's a perfectly modern individual.

Because Tevinter is bad but it's bad all the way over there.

The Templars are bad right here, and Anders has had personal trauma with them.

Because he is against blood magic and wants to help those in the same position as him.

Pretty much this. Anders wants to stop the injustices in Andrastian society not in the Tevinter or Qunari society. And not even with elves or anything just how mages are treated in Andrastian society. And that cause to free his fellow mages is all he can think about. He doesn't care what it does to him.

This. Why go change Tevinter when you see nothing wrong, per se, with Tevinter? (his mind, not mine!)

And Tevinter in his (and most Andrastians' minds) is a concept, and either a set of ideals for the mage issue done right, or pure horror.

Running away when you see a problem does not fix the problem. Anders wanted to fix the problem.
