*yes, I edited the thread title to be a bit more descriptive. :wizard:

Hi, I'm Sky, and I write fanfiction...

Of course it isn't anything to be embarrassed about!  I used to keep this to myself, but part of writing is putting yourself out there.  I have vulnerability and control issues :P Lady Winde posting her amazing work has given me courage to post mine.  It's nowhere near as good as hers, though.  It's also not about Alistair, though i am a fan of his.  Those of you who have seen me post anything elsewhere on this board can probably guess who my fic is about

<< That avatar there, That's Elle Cousland.  Elle's story is familiar:  loses family, becomes grey warden, romances Alistair, kills darkspwan, yada yada.  You know the drill.  She's smiling now because she's young (though i've taken a few liberties and place her at about 23 when recruited by Duncan)  and in love and about to defeat the blight.  It's all good!

Yeah, well, except...

Consequence one-shot where i first introduce Elle, takes place at the "celebration" just before the end of the game.  Serves as a sort of prequel to the longer fic i'm working on now.

And here we are a year later:

Out of the Dark, Ch. 1: Walls
Out of the Dark, Ch. 2: Sparring
Out of the Dark: Ch. 3: Hunting
Out of the Dark, Ch. 4: Flight
Out of the Dark, Ch. 5: Moving
Out of the Dark: Ch. 6: Old Friends

...to be continued, of course.

If you hate it, PM me.  If you love it, shower me with praises in public here in this thread or review it on ff.net.  ;)(just kidding!  I don't mind criticism, as long as it's constructive)

Sky

I think you did a lovely job on these. I have a hard time conveying emotion. Congrats!

Really nice! :D The writing is great, and now I'm quite curious/intrigued as to certain_character's motives, as well... X3 I'll stay tuned!

Oooh, you're on to me! I'm actually writing this to "practice" my character development skills, since i tend to think its one of my weaknesses. Thank you for the kind words!

hmm...good! that was also one of my intentions, and even though *I* know where said character is coming from, I don't want to give it all away. That's partly why i've chosen to write solely from Elle's perspective. 3rd person omniscient is easier to write, imho, and i wanted to give myself a bit of a challenge.

Wow these are freaking awesome

now HERE is a (wo)man who understands what i mean by "shower me with praise." LOL! thanks, i'm glad you think so =)

Practically a book unto itself, fantastic! I'm sure David Gaider himself would approve. I'm adding you to my watch list, and greatly look forward to your next chapters.

I just read Consequence and have to agree it's some good writing. I know the loneliness feeling rather well, so that part of the story made me hesitate a bit. Good work!

Endurium: so do I...which is, perhaps, why I'm writing this ;) (well one of the reasons).

The longer story is a journey, of sorts. Yes, there will be physical traveling, but the true journey is Elle's path out of this dark place to someplace...nicer. Definitely nicer!

Tassiaw: Thanks for reading =) Glad you enjoyed it, though I'm still not confident enough in my own abilities to compare myself with the inestimable Mr. Gaider...though I won't be shy and will say I take inspiration from many sources, including him. As for the novel...yeah, that's later. Someday. Maybe.

Mahumia: Part 3 is coming soon. already more than half done ;)

Your writing will always differ from Gaider's in that you represent the female perspective, and after years of reading male-written stories/novels about female characters, and male-written female NPC dialog, it's refreshing to read your stories.

yeah, i get worried i am making her too "rollercoaster-y" (meaning, her emotions are all over the place) but damn, that's how a lot of women ARE! ESPECIALLY when we're hurting.

I've been at the receiving end a few times, and it can be a wild ride. Your stories don't make me feel like I'm on a rollercoaster, but rather like I'm in a car going through town, with occasional pauses for red lights. Same car and driver, just changing situations.

Thank you for posting these! "Consequence" was really, really nice. It captures exactly how I felt when my human mage finished the game an angry, lonely, *guilty* wreck. I couldn't move on till I'd figured out what came later either--in her case, traveling with Sten, Zev, and Dog until the world made sense again.

I read the whole story now, prologue and both chapters. I'm not really into the fan fiction stuff but this is... interesting. I await chapter 3.

Just read 'Consequence'. Wow. You really captured the raw emotion of that situation. That's a tough place to be in. Anyway, good work, keep on writing!

Emotionally evocative. Wonderful. I just finished reading your first 3 installments (taking a break from working on my first fanfic offering). Elle's grief is a tangible thing, her volatile reactions realistic for the depth of emotion. I can't wait to read more.

The picture you paint with these words clearly shows the finer details of the emotions, intentions and regrets I felt when experiencing DA:O for the first time and the roaming of my imagination after.

I would certainly love to live this story through an expansion of the game that inspired it.

Well written and carefully crafted, BRAVO!

*showers Skydivers with praise and compliments*

I'm not very good at praising, I'm much more fond of criticism. ^^ Haven't read much yet, but it looks very good so far.
