Who needs biotic explosions when you can BURN ALL THE THINGZ!!!!!

Unleash the Vanguard's explosive potential!!!!


Strategy

FIRE EXPLOSIONS!! The recent patch has removed the need to kill opponents in order to ignite fire explosions. This means that fire explosions now only requires you to ignite a primed target. Biotic Charge and/or Nova will be your ONLY igniters. Inferno grenades, explosive ammo and squad mate powers will work as your primers.

This build is more versatile than the traditional biotic explosion vanguard because you have access to more primers(inferno grenade, incendiary ammo, squad mate powers).

The build

Incendiary Ammo
-Damage
-Headshot
-Explosive

Use James for squad ammo.

Biotic Charge
-Area
-Weapon
-Barrier

Yes, I said Rank 4 Area. Lob one of Ashely's inferno grenades at the group of enemies and then charge: explosions all over!!

Nova
-Radius
-Half Blast
-Pierce

Standard stuff.

Zero points in shockwave and pull.


Bonus power: Inferno grenades
-Radius
-Max
-Radius and Shrapnel

Inferno grenade: you are no longer useless. When it comes to priming a group of enemies, no bonus power does it better than the inferno grenade.



Squad mates: EDI, James, Ashley

EDI's incinerate, James carnage and Ash's inferno grenade will work as your primers. No need for overload. Fire is all you need :)

Weapons:

Automatic weapons seems to be better at priming that single shooters. Precision weapons like the Geth SMG, GPR and the Avenger are even better but that's a personal preference.

Shotguns are effective primers but lack the attack range of the SMGs/ARs/pistols. Weapon damage isn't important since your main objective is to ignite fire explosions.

Pistols work the same as shotguns but have more range. Pistols are less forgiving than automatic weapons so you'd be better off with an SMG/AR. Again, weapons will only be used for priming in this build.

In the end, the differences are slight so use whatever you feel most comfortable with.

The fire/cryo explosion buff carried over into SP? I haven't played SP since that patch. Usually the MP stuff doesn't carry over.

Another thing....

Your biggest threats are going to be Banshees, atlas and turrets because fire damage is weak against shields. DON'T use Overload. Tech bursting isn't allowed in this build. Instead, take the rank 6 shield evolution for James frag grenades.

I was thinking the same thing.  During my first ME3 playthrough, I gave my Vanguard Inferno Grenades because I didn't want a new power interfering with Charge's cooldown.  Seems these builds have become even better!

I lol'd a bit at "Yes, I said Rank 4 Area". That's the standard rank 4 evolution for Biotic Charge.

Also, Shrapnel on Inferno Grenades is bugged/weird. If I'm reading it correctly, it doesn't increase damage since the extra fragment explodes on impact and since it can't effect the same enemy twice it's basically worthless. Go for armor damage instead.

Really? I thought the rank 4 extra damage was the standard for Vanguards.

Anyway, the most important aspect of the rank 6 evolution is the radius boost. With both radius evolutions, you literally can't miss. I normally like to use inferno grenades when I'm surrounded by enemies: throw them on the ground then nova: fire explosion
Charge any primed targets that nova didn't reach: fire explosion.

(inferno grenades are also useful for instantly priming large targets)

IMO, extra damage to armor isn't really that important because fire explosions melts anything that isn't shields/barrier and health.

Yes, it did. The Geth Prime's new/improved Drone carried over too.

I was trying the Engineer using Cyroblast and Incinerate combos and it really wasn't doing anything on Insanity...i had the damage increasers too, so i moved on to just weapon classes.
