Also, you don't know about obscure characters reappearing nonsensically several sequels later unless you know about Sam the Beggar.

If the Warden doesn't kill him, then you see his corpse during Return to Ostagar.  You know it's him because he has the same key, if the Warden doesn't get it from him the first time.

I'm not sure how Bioware would retcon that when it's impossible to keep them alive.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sergeant Kylon again.  He had some nice quotes.

The hungry deserter was kidnapped and replaced with a charred corpse by the Illuminati a la DE:HR.

It's simple. The Maker wasn't done with him.

Perhaps, but he was a burned corpse.  If he returns and can talk, that would be creepy.  If he can't talk and is some random zombie, then what's the point?

Leliana simply used velcro/glue (possibly blood magic?  j/k) to attach her head back on; she was never a burned corpse.

Damn. To be honest, this is the first I'm learning about the key.
I never question, I just give him the food because I feel bad.

The first few play throughs I fed him, now I just kill him and take the key after he mentions it cause I'm greedy about my money these days lol. I'm going have to give him the food this time and check out the bonus item on my next play through. Hell might just do a char to that point any way to see.

It will be so hard to be nice and not kill him for once.

The darkspawn over-ran the camp. They probably killed him in his cage.

He was going to die anyway. They were going to hang him for desertion, remember?

Well they resurrected random noble man #21 seconds after he was killed in DA2:

He's dead at 00:19 and reappears at 00:27. In fact if you look in the background at 00:20 you see him resurrect instantly witnessing his own death. It seems two versions of him resurrected.

Conclusion:

Hungry deserter for DA3 or no one is buying the game.
