heya after playing an elf rogue and dwarf Warrior I wanna try a human caster. Thing is though I like dealing damage so the Primal and Blood mage trees call to me like a siren's song but every other mage build I see usually focuses on the other trees for the buffs they give, so I thought I'd ask is going pure primal viable or I'm setting myself up for failure?

I've played a pure primal mage. You can't heal or buff but you can crowd control and things really do go 'boom' nicely.

See that's what I thought I tend to play damage dealing warriors and rogues in rpgs so luging around potions is something of a nesscessity for me in games already but a mage would have a tougher time surviving than ethier good thing this a squad based game:D.

Viable, but hardly optimal. Simply picking up heal on every mage you have makes the game so much easier.

I say more power to you, but you may want to bring Wynne or Morrigan along for heals, depending on which difficulty you're playing. I wouldn't recommend any difficulty above Normal without healing spells, and to this day I can't beat Nightmare unless I have at least one mage w/ force field.

There is a simple measure to make the game a whole lot easier:

On the Korcari wilds bringing 3 vials of blood + papers from the outpost,
get the 3 blood, but not the papers,
go back to Duncan, he says "go back for the papers"
-but, you got a lot of experience.
Now, don't go anywhere, but initiate the dialog again,
get told to get the papers, -and get a lot of experience again !
Repeat until lv 9 or so, and at least with AW you can nightmare solo the entire game from here

First of all, that Bug was fixed. Secondly, taking AW talents isn't exactly primal mage is it?

A primal mage build  is viable, but you will take all 16 of the talents and start leveling up without getting stronger. I would recommend choosing something that is in the same style, like blood magic and spell might, maybe spell wisp. Other spells in the same style are the paralyze branch and maybe the hex branch. I would try to roleplay without totally gimping your character.
