Can someone de-mystify object collision conditions in this game for me? It does not work like any other game I have ever played.
Example: I park Sten, Alister, and Leliane at a doorway in the castle. All of their selection circles are overlapping, there absolutely no space whatsoever between them, and I use the hold command to keep them that way. Alister Opens door, maintains blocking position. My mage parked safely behind them casts an AE spell into the room and pulls bad guys. Bad Guys then approach 100% blocked chokepoint doorway-- and flow right through as if it is completely open and unblocked and immediately surround mage. What the heck?
Alternate example: Trying to move the party around over the various bridges in Redcliffe, I often find I am missing part of the party. I cycle through the party members only to find that two of them are colliding with one another like opaque objects and are stuck. What the heck? Is their object collision in DAO or not? The engine seems inconsistent.
The fact that objects that are hostile to one another do not exert a zone of control, and are apparently not solid, severly limits the tactics of this game.

The enemies basically just 'shove' their way through when you're trying to block a doorway with multiple characters.
I've used the Ranger bear pet (with Master Ranger) with limited success by parking him sideways across a doorway though.

Shove? That defies belief. How does a a small animal *shove* Sten out of the way in full plate! Lol!

Have to agree with your gripe. Holding a portal is almost pointless when they can just move past. Now if they successfully floored me with a Sheild Bash, or Overwhelm, or Critical Shot and then moved past - that would be acceptable.

I agree with OP, from my experience, your party always collide with each other, blocking paths, blocking melee attacks (and forcing the character to walk around the mob trying to find an opening).
But enemies do not suffere from it. I have had three zombies literally right on top of each other (well almost, but they were attacking through each other - sharing the same 3 foot area) and attacking my character.
It is another one of my small gripes about the game.
