mass effect is all about choices and I think ME4 should be like skyrim, where you can be whatever you want, and make whatever choices you want.
skyrim is massive though and if bioware wanted to make more games after ME4, they would have to be even bigger in order to contain all of the choices you made.
if they make ME4 like skyrim (not sure if they can or not, but i can dream), it will be endless. thats the main reason why i like skyrim, i got it when it first came out and i am nowhere near completion
as for the time it is set in.. i do think that if it was set in the past, it would ruin it as you already know whats gonna happen. (although it may enlighten the game and give it more depth, it would just be a waste of time, as in the end the reapers destroy it all..)
the krogan save the galaxy from the rachni
the krogan lost, the geno(however you spell it) was unleashed.
the quarians lost their planet to the geth.
the first contact war ending peacefully (i think,,, yeah it must have, anyway..)
shepard stopped saren and the geth And sovereign,
shepard stopped the collectors,
shepard stopped cerberus
shepard stopped the reapers.
etc,
you already know what happens, and despite all your efforts/ choices you make, the reapers come along and destroy it.
at least if its set in the past you are in the same situation as the other games where you only know what happened in the past and not what the future holds, where your choices really do make a difference.
i chose synthesis at the end and it'll be interesting to see what everything looks like with 'the collective knowledge of all the species that came before' in edi's words.

i just dont see how bioware can continue this when the big bad monsters in dark space have been defeated.
even if they make a new bad guy thats worse than the reapers, surely, if you chose to control the reapers or synthesis, they would be a considerable force against them.
along with the collective knowledge of every alien species that has ever existed, and peace between every species..
i just dont see how bioware can duplicate the feats of shepard or even out do shepard in ME4.
this is the main reason why bioware will set ME4 in the past, long before shepard.. :|
i get the strange feeling we'll have a storyline with anderson and how he shot kai leng in the legs....

Hey guys. I was wondering what some of your ideas for the new mass effect game coming in the future. What do you want to see? A Prequel? A game set after the events of ME3? I, for one, think that the new game should take place after the events of ME3. Now, I know that the current endings could cause a bit of trouble in creating a game set in the future of the ME universe, but this is the time setting I would like to see. Also, I dont necessarily mean a direct sequel. I was thinking between 100-200 years after the concluding events of the trilogy.
In regards to the story structure, I think that it should become more of a personal story. Maybe even take the route of bounty hunter/mercenary/space pirate. Have the story perhaps focus on relationships with your squad, as well as the main conflict revolving around a personal conflict that involves the main protagonist getting revenge on an old friend/teammate that screws you over, or some type of conflict like this. Again this is only my opinion, and the main story does not have to occur this way.
I also think that our squad/team should consist of species that we have not previosuly had the experience of interacting with on a personal level. For example, I think a batarian squad member would fit in well with the pirate/merc/bounty hunter type story due to their naturally agressive attitude. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have characters that resemble Wrex or Garrus, but I think interacting with a new species of character that we previosuly haven't had the opportunity to do would be interesting. I think the squad should be a bit larger than ME3, but not quite as large as ME2. I think anywhere between 8 and 10 squad members is enough. There should also be a ton of squad interaction, more so than in previous games (which have done a phenominal job).
Well, this is all that I have for now, what do you guys think? What are some of your ideas? Please comment!
There's going to be a big problem if ME4 is made a sequel, simply because each ending have different effects for example if i choose destroy then that means no geth but if that is the canon ending then the other ones will be obsolete just because geths are dead,if i chose control then that would mean that geth are alive so no destroy and there will be no green eyes meaning both endings are not canon, if synthesis is chosen then it will be clear since everyone will have green eyes and refuse ending ( doubtfull it will be canon since it was not in the original endings and was introduced in the EC) is canon then that means repears are alive and the next cycle comes but what im trying to say is that it will light the fire to those who hated the ending by saying fooled you there was only one ending.
Aside from that i would love to be able to follow javic story in the past(not while with shepard but in hes original cycle) even to the point where he slays hes ex comrades. If it where a sequel then i would like if they followed the refuse ending.
