Cerberus did worse. The Reapers are interested in efficiency and results. They have their purpose and they fulfill it. They do not cause pain without reason, though their reason is highly questionable.

. Cerberus was also interested in results.....

They took the long, painful process so that they could study it. The Reapers make it quick. A sort of mercy, if you will.

Legion disagrees with you about the reapers, his description of them in ME2 disprove that.  He reapers are a conglomeration of minds, not merely rememberence of the lost civilizations.

Really? Fascinating, must've missed that.

Reapers are organic/synthetic hybrids...
This is heavily alluded to in Mass Effect 1 and confirmed in Mass Effect 2...

. Why would Cerberus huskification be any slower than reaper huskification?  I didn't see any dragon's teeth in Sanctuary either

They weren't on the front lines. The Geth simply didn't discriminate who they targeted after a certain point. It's not explicitly stated, but it's easily derived.

"The Geth killed billions and drove us from our homeworld. Most Quarians believe we've paid adequately for our mistake."
- Tali, ME1 elevator conversation

"We do not judge the creators' anger towards us. We did them great harm in the Morning War."
- Legion, ME2

Pre-Morning War population is "billions," plural. Current Flotilla population is 17 million, with zero population growth legally enforced since the exile so as not to strain their resources. Do the math, and that comes out to a 99.15% casualty rate, minimum. Timestamps in the Consensus mission tell us the war lasted a single year. Legion tells us the Geth are clearing "toxins" from a ground war that ended centuries earlier. An editorial heard in the Spectre office after Thessia describes the Morning War as an "unthinkable slaughter." It's not hard to connect the dots.

After a point, especially considering the youth of the Geth, discrimination would be seen as crippling. Any Quarian could potentially attack them. Once the Quarians fled, the Geth did not persue. Until then, they were a threat, especially once the few geth sympathizers were killed or defected.

Can't remember where, but at some point it is stated that dragon's teeth are quicker, while the tanks that Cerberus uses result in a slower transformation.

Never understood the "preserve culture" thing. Reapers obviously have no use or care for it, and it's not like they're reading bedtime stories from millennium ago before they wipe out a planet so what's the point? Also, you don't hear about them (I might be wrong) gathering tons of Asari to preserve them - is it just humans? Sounds like an excuse / lie made to make annihilating races sound slightly better.

Thank you for the link.
A fascinating system. If the human minds still exist, then where does Sovereign or Harbinger come from? The individual that determines the actions of the Reaper. Perhaps it is a concensus, and those uploaded have come to understand...

Maybe they just pick one species per cycle. The Collectors are all Prothean. No other variations are prevelent.

"The Geth are better than this!"
"No. Empirical evidence would suggest we are not."

You don't kill 99% of any population in "self-defense" unless you're a collective entity which fails to perceive them as individuals. As soon as the majority of public opinion turned on them (after they started killing in targeted self-defense), they perceived the entire Quarian species as a threat and didn't stop killing until the last of them fled the planet. It was basically a massive misunderstanding on the part of the Geth, but the fact remains they responded to an attempted genocide with a successful one.

Remember, Legion is a recent development. He only developed his perspective during his travels in the last two years, and it doesn't apply to the Consensus at large until he makes it back to them. The Geth VI is a better representative of their thought process during the morning war - it offers no quarter, and expresses no remorse at the prospect of annihilating the Flotilla.

Most courts of law would not find the Reapers guilty, given the catalyst.

It would fall under "diminished responsibility" since they are mentally impaired.

Note the bolded section, but I'll play back through the game to see if I can find that one line of dialogue.

I really, REALLY don't want to get into this again. Think of it this way: Israel is the most militarized nation on Earth. Service is compulsory for both men and women. Their military (including reserves) is still only 7.75% of the population. Draft everyone physically fit for fighting, and you bring it up to 35%. Neither of these figures is 99%. Also see the addition I made to my last post. Legion doesn't represent what the Quarians were fighting back then - the VI doesn't give a rat's ass how many civilians it kills.

The Reapers appear to be acting entirely willingly. There's no evidence of any coercion, they appear to be completely in agreement with what they're doing. Of course they were built to be like that. What would the courts do to someone who had been raised to be a complete **** but who was clearly not mentally impaired in any way?

The Quarians aren't the same as that. When the fleet aimed to retake Rannoch, they used everything. The civilian fleet was used in combat, same as the more military elements. Quarians had forsaken the differences between civilians and military, proof that they can. Why would a logic-based thought process spare anything that would later come back to haunt it?

. Yes, and we should.  We should kill them for what they have done, indoctrination is not an excuse, if anything it's another reason to kill them
