I don't know if they will be able to give a selection of body types, but it sure would make me happy if they did.

As long as mages aren't hulked out this time (despite DA2 saying they wouldn't be and suprise! they're all jersey meat head built) homestly you could just use the damn elf body frames and increase the size slightly, i'm practicly doing all the thinking for you now bioware c'mon!

No.

This.

Also whenever these types of threads pop up on gaming forums, usually they are bing posted by people who want to play an obese protagonist. The thing is...an obese protagonist makes little sense for most RPGs. Someone who is out of shape is going to make a poor warrior, adventurer, or Space Marine.

As I said in the other thread that didn't have as clear of a title, I am very doubtful this will be in game.

They have previously stated that one of the major reasons they will not give race selection is they don't want to design cinematics and armor for different body sizes and heights.

Thats funny, because most other games can do it, why can't BioWare?

Yes, excellent idea. lets just add onto the already large amount of superficial content (full voice over for every unimportant plebian, multiple ways of speaking the exact same scripts based on the player chracters good/evil status)that does little more besides adding hundreds of thousands of dollars into development costs. You could create new quests and characters with that money.

I've not seen anyone seriously suggest playing an obese character. Most want to play curvy girls, more muscular girls, or more slender guys. All of which could conceivably be warriors and adventurers.

Learning about what would and wouldn't be difficult to implement from non-developers is so interesting exhausting.

OH YEAH? Well then how, sir, do you explain the most adventurous of obese protagonists: SANTA. He can shoot across the sky and fit down your chimney. Give him a viking helmet and we're set.

jk.

Hey, I played a big boned character in Neverwinter Nights!

(Granted, I think most of it was probably muscle, but still!)

I'd like to choose my body size and type even after character creation. With shapeshifting.

SWTOR has plenty of big bodied men. The women tend to be svelte no matter what the body type is.

I'm sorry the 90s ended and gamers largely decided they wanted more than inch high pixels to represent their characters.

Body type 4 was fairly thick also for females (by computer game standards), although not comically so like they did with the males:

Making PCs and generic NPCs scrawny if they are a mage or peasant and more muscular if they are warriors would be great. I also doubt the change would be significant enough to mess up camera angles in cinematics and such.

It always bothered me that female Commander Shepherd was supposed to be the ultimate super soldier but had the same scrawny body as every other woman in the Milky Way. Giving her a unique model based on say world class Olympic athletes would have been awesome. The same would work for plate mail wearing warrior women in a fantasy setting.

And of course in Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins every male technician, scientist or mage is also a beefcake, even if it makes no sense for them to be. A few different body types ranging from scrawny to athletic would fix that and might not be as hard to implement as people are making it out to be. Something a bit like the slider from Skyrim but with less of a range maybe.

I don't think your definition of "fairly thick" for females is the same as mine. :?

"by computer game standards" which are pretty much on par with the supermodel industry Posted Image

i will absolutely not argue that's nowhere near "thick" for a real life female.

I wouldn't mind having this option. More options in the character creation page is fine by me. However, I am not sure if this can be implicated because the reasons being given for not including multiple races in the next game has something to do with not being able to do the different body types of the various races.

I'd be an all for a fat protagonist so long as prolonged jogging causes the 'hero' to double over and wheeze, or drop dead of a heart attack.

If games like Fable can do this, I can't see why DA can't. I can understand not being able to adjust height for cinematic reasons, but weight? I don't see how that is an issue. I'd be happy with say 3-4 options as apposed to sliders, if that's any easier?

Make it so BW!

Hugging would be awkward with a variably sized protagonist.

And carrying the other person.  Though when FemHawke carries her sibling to the Grey Wardens there's massive clipping anyway, so maybe that's not a strong argument.

edit:  One option I've proposed before is to allow the player to choose the skin texture and thus how toned the body would look.  That wouldn't have any animation issues.

I would point everyone to the Saints Row series. While height is static you can adjust weight and muscularity. www.youtube.com/watch
