Before anyone asks: YES, I did check the various stickies and search older threads. I could not find a (working) solution to this problem.

So I finally decided to put my Collector's Edition codes to good use and register, figuring I'd get some nice DLC to play and such. The codes Steam provided were valid, downloads worked smoothly, the quest giver for Warden's Keep showed up in camp like he was supposed to, the icon was on the map, etc. None of those things gave me any problems, so 99% of the stickied solutions regarding this DLC are useless to me.

Anyway, I'm at the point where the gateway to the Veil needs to be closed and I need to guard either Sophia or Avernus while that happens. No matter which NPC I choose (for the record, I choose Avernus because I wanted Sophia's armor), the character will only walk a few steps after I say that I'm ready, stopping short of the summoning circle. No battles trigger, I cannot speak to or target the NPC in any way, and if I leave the room and come back the conversation starts over again with no improvement.

I have restarted the game, Steam, and my computer. I have reloaded to an earlier save and tried again. I even tried a rather bizarre suggestion and played the game in windowed mode, all to no avail. EA's Answer HQ isn't helping. You folks are my last hope. What can I do to finish this quest?

Specs:
Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit
Intel Quad-Core 3.40Ghz
16GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti

Bought and running on Steam with no previous problems, updated to version 1.05. If you need any other information I'll do my best to get it to you.

You can use the console to jump to the repaired point, if you don't care about the battle. You can also try to use fireball, if you have, to knock Avernus to the summoning circle to trigger the battle.

Do you know if jumping to the repair point allow me to choose whether or not to spare Avernus?

I don't think anyone has fireball yet (this is my first quest after Lothering), but I'll check. Nope, no fireball.

I don't know for sure; you can try it out anyway. You can always revert to an old save.

I don't suppose you could link me to the console tutorial thread? I know I saw it before, whilst browsing the forums during the 24 hour waiting period between registration and posting, but the search function only returns results about it not working.

EDIT: For some reason, the forums are removing their own smilies >_<
