To me, origins. The selection of race would mean little if the difference was only cosmetic and the content would be the same regardless of whether you pick an elf, dwarf or whatever. Origins allows you to shape your character and give him or her a unique starting point for their individual journeys. So if the choice was one or the other, I'd definitely go with origins.

I pick origins and I think this post sums it up best therefore I quoted it  :).

Origins vs. Races: Which is more important?

Which is more important to the story? Do we know the story yet?

Niether is more important to me. The only difference one would have over the other is if one impacted the story more than the other. For this discussion if we can assume the impact would be equal then I really would not care which was included and which was not.

In terms of DA3, well, we really would just have to wait and see how much the origins impacts your experience with the game though I am sure regardless of how much of an effect it does have people will still view it as a negative thing.

Read the OP.  This is a hypothetical question.  Assume they are both potentially equally important.  The purpose of this thread is to isolate the importance of a given feature by making everything else qual.

A couple notes:

For this poll, do not assume that human-only origins are anything like the backgrounds in Mass Effect.  They would be like DA:O's origins, except human-only.

More importantly, to those who voted Depends on Content - or anyone who wants to change their vote at any time - I am editing the original post to assume that both options share an equal amount of content in the "main" game, so please re-vote:

The answer that I gave is appropriate to the question posed in the OP.

More information that we did not receive is necessary. I can endorse one without the other if we know the most important piece of the question. If we ignore the most important piece to the question, then the question is meaningless in the void in which it exists. I answered in kind appropriately.

Both would be equally important.  Now choose or don't.

In that case, origins. Racial attitudes in a setting are interesting and all, but an origin can be a life story up to a point, which is a big part of making someone an individual and something I think I'd find more interesting than race reactivity alone.

Origins. More important to character development and establishment then race, since race changes how the world reacts to the PC rather than establishing or developing how the PC reacts to the world.

I think it should be noted that votes may be skewed by the recent news we all know. Not having an option means we want it, no?

I was going for the cheap laugh. I have no position on the actual question and am eagerly awaiting what will be shown in game.

Well, Dragon Age 3 will have neither, and the question posed is for a hypothetical future Dragon Age game.  But ultimately the poll is nonscientific anyway.

It's a hypothetical.  What will be in DA3 isn't really relevant, that's what the human protagonst in DA3 thread is for.  But if you'd like, and this goes for anyone, PM me and I'll alter/remove your vote.

Races, because I'd rather be treated differently, and see the world from a different race's POV on subsequent playthroughs, rather than the opening segment differing slightly, but then the rest of the game being pretty much the same in terms of RP'ing options.

Just my opinion, ofc.

Origins. One race with several playable backgrounds > several races with the same background. For me, obviously. x

I don't find either particularly important, but if I had to choose it would be origins.

Assume either has an equal chance of happening.  That's the point of the thread.  Which would you prefer happens, if you had to choose between them?  Is it race?

Race options.

Even given the narrow scope of the question, by assuming that each race would have equal content we have to assume that an elf would receive relevant elf-centric conversation options where there would otherwise be human-centric options in the game. Same goes for dwarves or whatever other races they chose to include.

Right, assume for example that in the racial option game, Elf-centric content would exist. In the origin option game, Poorhuman-centric content would exist. Or whatever the origin happened to be.

If that's the case then put me down for races.
