So we know that race options are gone and origins are gone, but will we be forced to be a certain character?

Will it be what ME did with Shepard? You can be nice Shepard, mean Shepard - but you are still Shepard. You don't make your character, you play as a character?

This is how i see it so far from info we got or got leaked to us -

You will be able to chose sex, looks, background, class. We don't know anything about the naming yet, but i think at least part of the name will be set.

You will be human, most likely right off the start part of the Inquisition, and you will be hunting down apostates, trying to get templars in line, and deal with demonic invasion (probably Tevinter's doing). There is also a bad political situation in Orlei, where you will had to pick between Empress or that baron that is opposing her.

Seems to me it's basically like Origins, only the origins aren't playable and they all happen to be human ones. Human magi and human noble were different enough to be distinct to me, as was the cut human barbarian background I'm sure =)

It would be nice to see the barbarian origin make a comeback. The barbarians were the Avvar, I think, right? From what I've heard they are trying to make the chosen backgrounds be more meaningful than in Mass Effect. Remains to be seen how large a role they play however.

You always play as A character, never in Origin's were you able to say what you wanted or really do what you wanted. You were constrained by this basic idea of a character ... Stop the Blight was the characters main objective. If you got to play as your own character you would be able to choose A) Stop the Blight B) Leave Ferelden for milk and cookies C) Become a Darkspawn but we are constrained by BioWare's shell of a main character (which is still a character in itself albeit a weak one) and our job is to fill that character up to create a 3D character personality.

Summary nearly every type of character is A character.

This ^

Both were Human yet both were very different.

If we get a handful of these for humans, I'd be very happy.

-Orlesian Noble
- Apostate
- Ex Templar
- Chantry Brother/Sister
- Outlaw
- Barbarian

You won't be anywhere near as restricted as DA2, so cant be any "worse" (I didn't think DA2 was bad but more customization is always good)

Two things here. They are actually your characters and at the same time they are actually not your characters

^ This.

This is pretty much my thoughts on what the devs have said, and, to be honest, the lack of races doesn't bother me. Would it be cool to be an elf or dwarf again? Most certainly, but being a human doesn't ruin the game for me either. I am quite attached to my Hawk, Amell and Cousland, actually.

And speaking of Amell and Cousland... part of the name has always been restricted. So having a set last name isn't new and doesn't make the character less yours. I do hope nicknames come into it more, though, just so best friends and love interests aren't calling the character by their last name or title (unless that's in their character because they have a very professional mindset or something).

Well, Origins are origins and they are no longer included. So we can choose text backgrounds basically.

I'm guessing it will just be a cop-out and only effect two or so lines of dialogue.

How did you come to that conclusion, exactly, considering that they've said outright that this won't be the case?

You mean when they said playable origins are out?

Or when I said I was guessing?
