They really should come up with some other form of "exploration" than jumping.
I don't see people "jumping" up Mount Everest.
Surely modern video games can overcome the technical issues that jumping once solved.
I absolutely HATE jumping constantly up a series of 3D game world extensions to climb anything from a wall to a tree to a series of random objects that gets me to a ledge where the secret treasure was hidden.
How did they jump it up there in the first place?
This isn't Mario... I hate jumping in video games that are attempting to be "serious".
Can you making jumping possible please?

It actually works well in Assassin's Creed. But they have a more realistic climbing animation, and jumping plays into that. Not to mention jumping from one roof to another, when they're close enough together.Medhia Nox wrote...

@robertthebard: An insanely agile assassin is different than a knight in plate - a fat dwarf - or a Circle Mage in robes.
And even Assassin's Creed isn't remotely "realistic" - fun, yes - and that's the premise of that game. It's not as much for exploration as it is an essential part of the game.
NOTE: Mario is awesome stuff - side scrolling platforms are great silly fun. I don't want that in my RPGs.

If the design of the terrain and exploration take advantage of it, sure. If not, no.
I really don't understand the need for this feature.

I support jumping, as well as climbing.

Jumping for explorations requirement would be fun. Other than that, most gamers (mostly males) would only make female avatars just to see their lead characters' boobies bouncing around, in my honest and brutal opinion.

Surely limited controller buttons can be used for something better than jumping on a game type which has maps are basically well disguised flat surfaces connected by ramps.

Dodge would be more useful wouldn't it?

I like exploration and in games that have jumping (Skyrim, Guild Wars 2), jumping is part of that exploration. I have to find my way up this mountainside. Or I have to jump across the gap. And it's pretty cool. Though what if they design the mountain path suchs that you can just walk up them? Is the gap jumping needed to explore? I don't think I don't think it's needed. I like it just fine. But I'm not sure it's actually necessary. You can probably still accomplish that feeling of exploring (which is something I really like) without the need for jumping just by designing the environments accordingly.

They can always just add auto jumping like in Legend of Zelda.

Just do it like in Mass effect 3, where approaching certain ledges makes you jump.
