I detest Alistair. He talks about the darkspawn like they're actually a threat, and he's scared of him, and can I please protect him from the big bad darkspawn?

NO! We're ****ing wardens. We run around and kick darkspawn ass. That's what we do. Now man up, get a weapon, and whack some darkspawn with me.

My first playthrough I played a Human Noble Female Rogue, and romanced Alistair. I wanted to shoot myself. It was the worst roleplaying experience ever, because I couldn't tell him to man up and stop crying like the little **** he is, or he'd get mad at me. Jesus CHRIST, do I hate Alistair.

Same here....Even though he 's a bit emo he's still my Bro. Alistair has pulled my bacon out of the fire more times than I can count. He pulls a tantrum later in the game but I stand by his side because I dont betray my bro's,in real life or a game.

I liked Alistair as a character because to me he was very realistic. On my first playthrough I thought he was a very good person at heart until he needed to take huge responsibilities and left me :( However, on my second playthrough I played as a resented elven mage and found out Alistair is very driven by revenge. For instance, the storyline near the end and also on Warden's Keep.

History seems to repeat itself with Bioware games, in terms of romanceable guys. I have always preferred the strong, macho guys to the ones chosen for female romance options.

In KotOR I would have liked to romance Candorous instead of Carth. In Jade Empire I wanted Zu for the romance option instead of (ugh), Sky. In Origins I wanted Sten, not sissypants Alistair. So I've concluded I'll never be happy with Bio's romance choices for female players until they start giving us some *manly* men.

Alistair is an okay guy.

Duncan is an idiot for recruiting him into the wardens though.

What is not to like about Alistair?

Funny comedian, somewhat misunderstood and a strong warrior.

If Bioware had made him more confident in his abilities and skill, it wouldn't make sense either that the PC warden took the lead.

Alistair, as an npc and a warrior was fine. Alistair as a romance was lame. One time in the tent, then nothing but innuendo and a kiss? Yes he had some romantic lines and gave my pc a rose, but I like a male character that is less uncertain, and I always wondered why they made him so insecure. I suppose it was the bastard story that they were emphasizing, but I'm just saying, I like more decisive men for not only a romance option, but personality wise. Alistair didn't exhibit any real strength until almost the end of the game.

I think Allistair is a pretty good character. Probably because I enjoy his jokes, because I joke like that occasionally.

*grabs Popcorn*

Character hating people are an odd but somewhat funny folk. Lol. So much energy to scream it out in the world/interwebs.I don't hate any of the characters because I take my frikkin time to understand them. And if there is someone I don't sympathize with (Loghain for example) I tend to go all *shrug* about them but you won't never see me screaming out "GAWD I SO HATE HIM from the top of the mountain. *rolls eyes* Just my two cents and now let the necro-thread finally die. It's not worth to get fully resurrected with all the *interesting* lines within. *cough*

If so many people hate him and so many loves him, Is that not a sign Bioware has managed to create a character personality successfully?

If it brings up emotions and makes the guys nerdrage bashing the keyboard or making the ladies leave lipstick marks on the screen.

Well then its a part of the experience of the game and it is taking that step so many game developers are trying to reach with getting you immersed with the game.

You really should do it. The scene that follows is the funniest conversation i recall in DA:O  Alistair throws the biggest hissy fit known to man.

Alistair is pretty funny but really moody. Kinda reminds me of somebody i used to date so it's probably why i like doing everything possible to make him get all mad.

I remember the whole "announcement scenario" at the Landsmeet where I had brokered the Anora/Alistair marriage already but when the option came up to announce "I WILL RULE BESIDE HIM!" he totally shot me down, only for like 5 seconds later of pouting I announce "ANORA AND ALISTAIR WILL RULE TOGETHER!"

I mean c'mon, I had to take a shot. Who doesn't want to be queen?

Alistair is damn funny lol. but yeah moon, hes pretty touchie, almost as bad as morrigan. Then again shes is somewhat attractive when it comes to her personality. Alistair is supposed to be meh wingman though, therefore... he needs to toughen up a little

Alistair isn't quite as bad as Wynne i suppose. There's like a million situations where Wynne could turn on you or get upset you need to walk on eggshells around that woman.

Depends how you play i suppose. Good guy type players will p**s Morrigan off a lot and Bad guys tend to Upset Wynne more. I fall into the latter but i guess it's damned if you do and damned if you don't.
