I thought she was unkillable at first but on my fourth run I managed to kill her and all of the guards in the manor on normal difficulty, its not easy though, you need to lure Ser Cauthrien away from the guards and pawn on her, this is where your backstabbing rogue plays the best part. My party was Alistair, Sten, my Rogue, and Wynne. Wynne was excessively loaded with lyrium potions as well as healing poultices.

The problem was that she was allowed to be more difficult that the arch demon. When people recall their play through in DAO, they remember a wussy arch demon that was suppose to be the final boss. And then... and then... then.. there was King Cauthrien in her non-****ty armor that fing... murdered your entire party over and over again. I ask you... who is your arch daddy? Maybe bioware intended it this way. Remember General Leo from FF6... or General Lemon from one of those Shining Force games? Bad asses.

You know, one on one I find that she wasn't hard or that powerful, but it's really those archers and them spamming away that one skill that really nerfs you badly in that fight.

I did manage to beat her after reloading 8 times...my hands were shaking too...I too thought it was funny that none of the other hordes of people she had with her followed her into battle...I tried freezing her, sleep and other methods to stop her and she just shrugged them off...in the end I did manage to cut her down but I used every pot I had (close to a 100 of them)...it was very, very hard...I had to keep my healer off to the side not attacking to keep her alive, I learned that two swipes from Cauthrien and my mage and rouge were dead. I kept thinking, what skills\\armor\\weapon does she have, 'cause none of my 2HW were ever that tough...I was underwhelmed by the loot she dropped...if they were going to make her so tough, we should have gotten something really good for beating her...

Funny. With my last character (2h-warrior) who is a dpsdealer and a tank could manage her with wynne and Oghren (whom I specialized in sword and board). It was difficult yes and Leliana died, but no other did and this was nightmare.

Because...plot.

Seriously, she's just artificially difficult in this fight because you're presumably meant to lose. If you fight her again when entering the Landsmeet she's a pushover.

It bugged me alot too.

But not even Ser Cauthrien can resurrect a three-year-old thread.

I got her and was going for the mage in the first fight when I went down.  Than when I meet her again I was like, wait swas she just asleep?  Been a while since I done a game and I remember in my past play throughs I talked her out of the fight at the landsmeet.  Need to figure out how I did that cause my next char will want to keep her alive, she would make a good secound in command after all.  Well once Logan dies killing the Archdeman that is....cause I'm so deheading Allister in this play through.

I finally beat her!
Granted my mage died, then Zevren, but Morrigan resurrected him, then she died... and then Lilianna shot the rest of the guards from a safe distance and used a lot of poultices...

... and the game was on easy :P

The key to beating her in that stage is to have A LOT of Health Poultices and if you're a mage: Lyrium Potions. Do that and cast the Storm of The Century a few times.

Shes still got nothing on Drizzt in BG1 (in melee - auto chunk).. he had the handcap, being out in an open area.

Its good to see no plot flag on a plot related event for once... its just a shame many other character's had plot flags. Nothing like going crazy killing everything then hitting reload..

Id have to loved to kill Lord nasher in NWN1/2, he even deserved it... but the plot flag protected him.. :(

Would you prefer the plot flag here?

Major nostalgia here. I remember I was in the military at the time and I was in a friend's dorm at 3 AM trying to get past Drizzt, each taking a turn. I finally did it after 3 days and we started yelling and screaming and had the whole place awake. Good times.

Anyway, Cauthrein is possible to kill with preparation - in fact, I consider Zevran's first attack or the darkspawn event after getting the mabari to be more difficult as you can not prepare and lose the advantage. It's pathetically easy to trap the bejesus out of the doorway and mage storm of the century to wipe out guards.
