Yes, there's that lyrium, which doesn't do a thing for me, I'm squishy.

Would have been 'really' nice if that slug that put me to sleep said, "Oh, and here's 43,465 potions to tie you over while you are sleeping, and your bags are sure packed from all the stuff that's been dropping on the way up the mage tower, how about I just put that in a bank for you until you get back, no?"

I just went through a burning room, went mouse, came into a room with a dreaming templar of some sort and a fire demon 6000 (now with Retsin!) and I just can't take them on at the same time.  Maybe if those lyrium deposits respawned more frequently, like as often as my dirty fighting, and if dirty fighting worked on flaming bags of goo.

Any strategies would be appreciated.  Do I just run around in circles until it respawns and then click it to restore my health, shoot the dreaming guy twice (if I'm lucky, I'll hit it for 9 points of damage with my bow) then run around in circles until the lyrium is up again?  Good times.

Do you have the spirit form yet? It has regenerate as one of its spells. You can also use Crushing Prison and Winters Grasp to temporarily immobilize oppontents.

The enemies in the fade are easier to kill then normal except for bosses so you shouldn't really be using many healing potions and you can't loot anything in the fade so you don't need backpacks.

Heh, my first time through that experience, I did not grasp the shape-changing capabilities to their fullest. But they made the shapechanging so fast, you can shift to Burning Man, lob a fireball and while that is still tracking toward it's target, shift to spirit, slap a crushing prison on an enemy, and hit them with frost. I've had fun flitting through the different shapes quickly now, when I do that section. (I will say that it's still the easiest going through when I have a mage character though,.)

Can't remember the name, but I think the best one to start on is the top right dot. Thats where you get Burning Man which makes the others much easier.

Lyrium works fine for me and I never need that many potions in Fade.

Your damage seems very low, and you say you are squishy. Maybe you built/equipped your character in wrong way. The only strategy I can advice without knowing your build is kitting. If the only way to beat something is running in circles then by all means I am going to run in circles. Otherwise you gave too little data to give any proper advice.

I find 99% of the fade really easy, except for a few fights, those blasted mages that throw 15 zillion fireballs and 1 million lightning bolts in the span of 2 seconds. There have been a couple times when I opened a door and was insta-gibed. I just look at my screen for a few minutes, still trying to use WASD, use my abilities, till I realize "oh, hey look at that, I already died". reload.

9th level Rogue/Ranger (of course it won't let me use my wolf). I couldn't use a spoon in a fight, I use a bow, that is my weapon of choice. I generally rely on the rest of my party to take a beating or cast a spell. All I can do is dirty fighting, which seems to have a cool down of a day and a half.

The only form I have is a mouse.

I've tried going from circle to circle looking for something I can handle, but there isn't anything so far. Just go back from trying it in easy mode (was playing on Normal) and that didn't help.

I can't see what bow I have, but it's one I found in the tower right before I got put to sleep.

Very frustrated, and don't know what to do about it. Could really use a Versus Neverwrinter Nights Adventure Guide style walk through at this point. Made it to this point having a really good time, this hit me like a ton of bricks. Went from enjoyable, roleplaying game to gear locking, right character building MMO raiding with one dream sequence :)

With your build you might find it easier to start off in the Darkspawn Invasion. Most of the enemies are just regular darkspawn. You can use mouse holes to get past several sets of enemies without fighting. And at the "end" you get the spirit form which gives you healing and damage abilities. (Plus you're having trouble right now with the fight that would give you Burning Man.)

Gamebanshee has part of their walkthrough up, and it includes maps of the fade sections.

Yeah I've just done the fade part with an archer, and spent a lot of time using the shape shifting forms. I think the one you're trying to get at the moment is the burning one, I already had the spirit form at that point and used crushing prison and frost against them which helps a lot. If you're having trouble then maybe try one of the other areas (not templar's nightmare as there are no forms there) and come back to this fight once you get one of the other forms.

Level 9? Did you go there right after Lothering? Seems pretty low, in any case, since I usually hit 8 after I get out of Lothering. As well, at that level, with a Rogue, I had Combat Stealth, which proved a lifesaver at this stage of the game. You should also have some of the more deadly arrow talents (Arrow of Slaying, Critical Shot, or whatever) by this point. Dirty Fighting is pretty pointless, considering you're going to be attacking from range with a bow.

With the burning templar and the Rage Demon, I typically plop on Combat Stealth, wait for Arrow of Slaying to recharge, and then dispatch one with a shot (or get as close as possible to killing them), the kite and stealth, and attack as often. This was on Nightmare, and I had to reload a couple of times.

I think it's a problem with your setup. A pretty big problem, especially if you're only using Dirty Fighting.

Ok thanks, I'll take a look at that. I didn't give 'Easy' mode enough of a chance, it seems to be working better for me, and I'll just put it back to normal when I get out. I'll try the Darkspawn area to get a 2nd form, see if that helps me out.

I just built what I thought would be fun for me.  Kinda tired of the whole 'right build' thing.  I forget what I have at this point for combat skills.  I don't have any stealth.  I took an ability which allows me to shoot my bow when people are in my face, which while unrealistic, is nice.  I went from Lothering to the town to the left of that, bottom end of the lake, forget the name.  Did everything outside, did the fight to save the town, did the castle, but now I'm at a point where I didn't want to kill the boy, so I went with the Bloodmage idea to get the Circle of Mages to help us, so I left there and went to the tower :)

All-in-all, really like the story and choices and all that, but finding this part frustrating and not terribly fun at the moment.  Can't wait to get the band back together and get back to the loitering and what not.

I hope you do realize you are going to have a problems in game if you dont pay attention to what abilities you have? You can be tired of "right builds" but that doesnt mean you can pick whatever you find fun and still have easy time killing stuff.

I personally tried to be safe in my first playthrough, now when I am playing my 11th game I take some odd combos and still succeed in whatever I want to do, but I learned the game pretty well by now.

I know what I have, I guess I just meant at the point in time I was writing my response, I didn't know off hand exactly what the names of the abilities are.  Too many abilities across too many games to remember which goes with which :)

But with the link to the walkthrough and the direction to get the spirit form first then go back to the Burning Tower, that seems to have helped out immensely, and I picked up the burning form (or whatever it's called) and now I'm on to get the form so I can knock the massive doors down and go back and finish some of the other areas before I go free my party.

Thanks again, everyone, for being patient and for all the help.  I'll make a concerted effort to not stampede out like an Ogre into the forum next time :D

Hehe. Sounds like you're handling max frustration very well, all in all. That would be a seriously difficult build to play in some situations. Dirty fighting is an up-close and personal hit, while archers are usually ranged. Which means you have to close up your range to use dirty fighting.

If I were you, i would put points into poisons/bombs. That way you can lob a firebomb or freeze bomb or acid flask at enemies who look like htey're going to overwhelm you if you don't stop them.

I've become a total fan of poisons and bombs. Even my tank poisons his blade before difficult fights. Makes a huge difference.

Even if you build an "archer", as a rogue you should still have a pair of daggers in your off weapon slot. There are many times when you can simply just pump out way more damage with the melee than you can with the bow and you don't even need dual wield spec if you have some of the better rogue abilities (like Lethality),

I actually made a rogue that didn't get any combat abilities. Just rogue abilities and he was fairly good at combat by using whatever was appropriate to the encounter and capitalizing on the poisons/bombs/traps.
