The subject of Synthesis tends to set BSN ablaze. I'm interested in knowing exactly what you, the users, think about the Synthesis choice. That is, I want some numbers that reflect the board's majority opinion.

Please be civil. If you hate it, you can explain why, but please don't resort to name-calling. The same goes for the people who like it.

Take a deep breath, and vote. ;)

- Love it
- Like it
- Indifferent
- Dislike it
- Hate it

I... don't know. :P

Yeah, I'm trying to decide on my canon ending, and lately I've been rigorously investigating Synthesis. I've posted some threads that are attempts to rationalize the choice to myself. Here they are:

It's a weird ending. And it presents some very uncomfortable ideas. But all of the choices do that. I admit that Synthesis is the hardest choice to defend.

Synthesis in my opinion (being honest and polite) is the worst one of all of them. I don't "hate" it, I just find it quite repulsive. Then again...playing Fallout 1 does that to you. =]

(Look up "The Master" and you'll know what I mean.)

I can honestly say with 100% certainty that Synthesis is the only time I have ever actually felt betrayed by a story. It still makes me feel uncomfortable, Shepard dies to save the reapers? Shepard tells the reaper on Rannoch that whatever species it was made from doesn't exist anymore. Besides, since that Catalyst did such a great job preserving organic life by transforming whole species into reaper, imagine what synthesis would be like. After all, the Catalyst considers it the ideal solution.

I really hate how their is this suspension of disbelief when it comes to Synthesis. I can think of so many contradictions and complications from synthesis, but because Bioware doesn't want to touch anything after the Battle for Earth, no amount of speculation on the fans behalf will ever amount to any.

I have a fanatical hatred of Synthesis.

Synthesis is a good option if you think there is something fundamentally wrong with the Mass Effect universe that needs to be corrected and to fix it you need to change everyone and everything.

Lets permanently change all life in the galaxy because the leader of the Reapers thinks it's best.

I liked it. It was at least a sort-of happy ending. For everyone.. except Shepard and ofc their LI. T_T But it was also rather weird and strange. And the reapers live. Lame. But I'm really happy for EDI. But I didn't play the game for her. (No offense) So maybe after all I'm indifferent.

I like the idea but feel it's better achieved by volunteers sticking mechanical or biological upgrades into their bodies. No particular reason to force it on everyone.

Basically, my second choice after Control.

ME1: Fighting Saren for this exact reason
ME3: Do what Saren wanted

It's just total betrayal of the story.

After going through three games of "We must stop the Reapers!" and refusing the idea of trying to control them then suddenly at the last ten minutes here's Synthesis! Lets become like them! Uh, no thanks!

I had this idea about Shepard coming back after synthesis, but as the last organic being in existence. The Reapers gain self awareness, but Harbinger retakes control of the reapers; breaking the cycle bringing something far worse. I like the idea of Shepard being alienated by every living thing in the galaxy due to him being an inferior life form to everyone (the catalyst says synthesis is the apex of evolution after all.)

The only thing I like about synthesis is just the thought I have of Shepard coming back as the Omega Organic, and getting to die with dignity at the end.

I bet Cerberus used Reaper tech to resurrect Shepard.

Where's the option for "it should die in a fire"?

I am disappoint.

All the Mass Effect 3 promo art shows Reapers burning as they fall from the sky. Just saying

How do you think Shepard would react if he saw everyone working wih the enemy he died to save them against?  Granted Shepard conciously chose synthesis, but the Catalyst only tells Shepard that the reapers will stop their harvest.

I love the Synthesis ending. Everyone, Reapers included, benefit from it.
