Firebase Dagger: Sandstorm

Firebase Reactor: Core venting

Firebase Ghost: Rain

Firebase Giant: Nighttime

Firebase White: Whiteout

Firebase Glacier: Seeker swarm

Now that we've had the chance to experience each of the new hazard maps, its that fun time to really chit chat about them. Before I get too far into all of this with my own views and my opinions on the maps. Here is my questions for you N7's out there. For those wanting to post on a poll here you go.

1. Which hazard map was your favorite and why?
2. Which hazard map was your least favorite and why?

For myself, it is a tough call between Firebase White and Firebase Ghost. I loved Dagger for its sandstorm and its ability to challenge players in a fight where the ability to see the enemy is harder, but I am not much of a "Sandstorm" kind of person. I prefer the snow so the whiteout of firebase white is amazing to me. But Firebase Ghost brings that true hazard challenge when the rain is falling, the enemy is shooting at you, and you're caught in the rain which is just destroying your shields bit by bit. Overall its a very tough call, but Firebase White inches ahead of Firebase Ghost. While I do love the challenge of ghost with its "Anti-shield rain", the ability to take away the players visual is just a tougher challenge in my opinion for the player. Though Firebase White would pull farther ahead if the whiteout was just a little more heavy, overall I still love it. Firebase Ghost takes a close second place though, much love for that map.

With all that said the only hazard map I can really say I didn't like was Firebase Reactor. While its cool to give the players more "tools" to fight the enemy, giving them this tool, and then claiming it as a "hazard" just wasn't spot on for me. Don't get me wrong, its cool to blast enemies with the core vent. But its just not a hazard to the players, if anything its just a helpful win button if its used properly. Sadly I saw a lot of players just randomly pressing the button. I understand it was new and not everyone knew what it really did which is fine, I had to press the button with nothing inside once to see what it did also. Still though it doesn't take away the fact that Firebase Reactor's "Hazard" to me was just a tool to be used for the players and the only threat it proved to be is if a troll pressed the button. While thankful that Bioware saw ahead of time of such possible trolling by adding in a 6-10 second warning to get out, it didn't do much to make the map feel like a hazard. It just felt like the same reactor, just with a tool to use against the enemy. I do not hate the map, its just not my favorite of the hazard maps.

With all of that said I am still highly supportive of more hazard maps being made. Thank you Bioware for these refreshing maps and I cannot wait to see what else you make for us.

What about you N7's? Where do you stand with these new maps?

Favorite: Snowstorm on White, by a country mile.

Targeting Seeker Swarms has never been easier.

Least Favorite:  Reactor.  It's kinda blah.

Ghost is my favorite. Just the look of it and then add the acid rain equals awesome.

Giant for least favorite. It really has no hazard.

My favorite's either glacier or ghost. Both have great atmosphere and a hazard that really impacts things.

Reactor's the least interesting, I would've liked to have seen more changes to the look of the level, maybe make it darker or something. I can't even play white though, it doesn't work with 3d vision.

FBW reminds me of home... so will have to go with that one for now as my favourite. Can't say that I've got a least favourite, but Giant was a bit disappointing; I was sort of expecting something creepier.

Tie between ghost and white, they are just awesome to play in and make it feel, well, more real

Least favorite is dagger, it's just, eh, not good in my opinion, hinders you and who likes being blinded by dirt.

Firebase White (Whiteout)
-It has a very classic Mass Effect feel to it, more like the Noveria levels from the first game, where as the base version looks like Gelix.

Firebase Ghost (Acid)
-It simply looks so much cooler than the base version, as with most of the new map variants. The acid rain hazard mechanic also reminds me a bit of ME1, and can actually be helpful at times if enemies get caught out in the rain.

Firebase Dagger (Sandstorm)
-It simply looks cool, although sniping on this map is a pain in the neck.

I'm not really big on the others... the nightime version of Giant is better than the base version, but it's kind of boring. We were led to believe that this map had some kind of lightning storm mechanic, but it turns out the changes were purely asthetic. Reactor and Glacier are cool as well, again better than the base versions, but I find them to be the least interesting.

That said, can we have ALL of the Hazard maps introduced into rotation next week? I don't like this two maps a week thing, I'd rather be able to play them whenever I want.

Ghost for sure.

I do enjoy the glacier hazard, but THE SWARM DOESN'T HURT ENEMIES.

So very true. Ghost was an amazing job on behalf of the level development team at Bioware and I can say that its one of the maps they should pull influence from for further development of other Hazard maps later down the road. Everything to ghost had a nice flow that went with it and the rain while it did hurt your shields, it didn't kill them in the blink of an eye.

Firebase White
Firebase Ghost
Firebase Glacier
Firebase Dagger

I feel these four maps will be their major influence for later development. White and Dagger brought a very good blinding effect with the natural setting of the maps which pushed players to fight a little differently compared to other maps. Glacier brought two things that I feel were lacking with Giant; A creepy setting and a deadly hazard with the seeker swarm that really had no mercy on anyone who was caught in it.

Giant did an awesome job using a combo of nighttime setting with the flashes from the turret lights, but because it wasn't really dark enough to make the flashes any sort of large value in lighting up the field. It just didn't deliver that full feeling of a hazard. The most it really does is throw off some snipers with shaking and or sudden flashes of light which could mess up some shots do to players overcorrecting their aim. I even saw non-snipers throw some wild shots out there because of the of the same thing.
