So for the longest time I've thought and suggested(along with many others) that the speed of combat for Dragon Age 3 needed to change and be different from both Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2.

Personally, I've felt that Dragon Age Origins' combat was too slow while Dragon Age 2's was too fast paced.

Thus, I desired and still desire a middle ground- faster than DAO, slower than DA2.

With Assassin's Creed 3 merely a few days away from release, I took a look at its more realistic approach to combat(though still exaggerated in some bits) and noticed that the speed and fluidity of its combat felt natural, not cumbersome, and flowed very well.

Ignoring the style of combat and going purely by its speed, would the pace of combat be better off if weapon swings and combat movements(in the DA world) were at such a speed?

I feel as if it blends the more believable speed of DAO with enough extra speed from DA2(without going overboard) leaving a good middle-ground to work with.

Example-

About a minute and 20 in.

I liked the weapons speed for all weapons except for 2H, I would like it if they made them slower but more impactful and powerful.

for me the ths are too slow in DA:0 and just about right in DA:2.
combat speed should be the same as in the passages "with love and passion" in the video.

I think the speed of 2h in DA2 would have looked a lot better if the weapons themselves weren't so ridiculously large.

It's not the speed of DA2 that bothered me so much as the exploding bodies. Everything was just over the top, presumably to match the cartoony art style. It wasn't a good fit for a game that was trying to be serious. The 2H swords have already been mentioned, so I'll leave that one.

And I don't think AC3 is a good model to follow. Just check out that enemy AI at 1:20. They circle him, doing absolutely nothing, when almost all of them get an opportunity to bayonet him in the back.

I said to ignore the style and just focus on the speed. :P

Its interesting to see different opinions on how two-handed weapons should operate speed wise. Personally I've no problem with them being wielded with speed as there were warriors in real life who wielded huge swords and axes like they were swinging daggers.

Though admittedly it'd be nice if a two handed warrior had the physique of someone who looked like they could do that. Maybe Dragon Age III will allow you to edit your build to make it more convincing?

They can make two handed weapons look heavy while still swinging them with relative speed. Different games do it all a little differently, I'm not sure DA has gotten it just right yet.

This sounds like a good idea.

Thats why 'haste' is one of my favorite powers in DA:O. It helps speed up everything from combat to just walking around the game.

DA 2 was definetly better in regards to combat, but still slopily implimented, a refined version of the DA 2 combat system would be best (or a compitent rip off of the ff12 system you already poorly stole from, whichevs :P)

Also use ACTUAL team combos damnit, you keep teasing them and fail to deliver each time, go play chrono triger and be ashamed of yourselves that a 16-bit era game does team combs better then you; after you're done crying steal everything from chrono triger

I'd prefer a halfway speed between DA:O and DA2, and a less 'flashy' feel than DA2 brought to the table.
