 So I get the quest from Scar to go into the sewers.   I kill the Ogre Mage and take his ruby ring (and another I found in the cocoons) and take them back to Scar -- except when I talk to him he simply says "that's OK, I'll send some of my men out to investigate it."   Then he goes outside and is ready to take me to Duke Eltan.

[EDIT: OK, I figured it out.   When Scar gives you the mission, the variable SCARMISSION = 3.   I had talked to Scar after he gave me the mission before I left and he told me to keep at it -- this sets the SCARMISSION = 4 -- apparently this makes him think you've failed.   Editing a savegame after killing the Ogre Mage and resetting SCARMISSION = 3 made it work correctly.]

Incidentally, another strange thing is I've noticed that if I go into the houses/shops in SW Baldur's Gate, when I come out I tend to get approached by a Flaming Fist who wants to arrest me for Scar's murder -- apparently this is supposed to happen in Ch 7 but it is happening to me in Ch 5.   I've succeeded in working around the problem for the time being, but I'm wondering if this is a symptom of a larger problem.

Also, this may be unrelated, but I cleared the Merchant League before I did the Seven Suns -- maybe this confused the game?
