And the example you provided has a issue: if people discovered that the court mages have allowed the blood mage to control the ruler's mind, people will be against mages. Manipulating people in trusting mages isn't the right choice, in my opinion. You might end up weakening your side.

It seems to be a sound argument that mages with their superior power are supposed to rule. However, please let me remind you that the power of the mages does not come with superior charisma and/or intelligence. And that means they are no more fitting to rule than another normal man.

You`re fit to rule as long as you can grab and keep the power as people rule animals.

Actually, if Tevinter and Qunari manage to destroy each others, I'd be really happy man. Their power is far greater than any Andrastian places, and the moment one of them will prevail on the other, they'll begin their invasion of southern Thedas.

The story is already written. All the characters are set by this point. Its highly unlikely this would happen, considering the Tevinter is probably going to be a main enemy faction (probably like Darkspwan with Archdemon were in DA1)

I hope you`re wrong! Even in DA1 DLC you can play as  Darkspwan.

Honestly, the main reason I would even want to be a Tevinter mage is because 'magister' sounds so freaking badass.

The trick there is not to tell my court mage about the arrangement either, so that it's a genuine contest. But do you have a less manipulative way?

well, i "like" the tevinter imperium

but:

while i want mages to be treated equally and fairly, i do not want to help put them back in power either (i do not want to tumble the imperium either, because firstly i do not think i have the right to and secondly: it is only the imperium, with its well trained (blood-)mages and large armies that holds the quunari back (which i kind of hate, because they are religious communism for me and that strikes me as a really really bad combination!), so, as bad as the empire is, it serves a purpose now, too...that is IMHO the reason the divines have not called exhalted marches down on them in a long long time, because if they break the imperium they might lose the whole continent to the savages (quunari) and for all their mage hatred, they hated another religion (the quun would replace them!) more!

ps: i might decide differently, if they showed us the imperium - but not through an ex-slaves eyes, because of heavy bias...i would love to hear from a free merchant from there (magisters/mages are also biased!), like that girl in Denerim (Market Place) that tells you about her home country of orlais that she had to leave because of a chevalier that wanted to "grease his bronto" (to quote ogrin) with her...

I'd love the ability to befriend a magister, I expected a lot of benefits from selling Fenris back to Danarius. The friendship of a highly influential magister (or two, if you account his apprentice) would've been fun to use around, shame it only goes to a letter and some gold.

Best. Spell. Ever. Overpowered? Absolutely, but the world is meant to tremble in fear for the Imperium looking to userp all that is good and just. Rule with fear and might and let those who oppose you be cast into an unrelenting inferno for all eternity.

I don't "need" it - it's just great fun. There's plenty of other anti-mage spells to use on my enemy.

I'd like to see more of Tevinter and it's Black Chantry, since it seems to be the mirror image of the rest of Thedas and its own Chantry. It would be interesting to contrast one system where mages are viewed with suspicion and even hatred, and another where they are the oppressors.

What went wrong with each of them?

True, but the Tevinter Imperium is an extreme entity quite separate of what we would consider the milder elements of the Circle of Magi which we have become accustomed to in Dragon Age.

So much potential with this. I'll be dissapointed if DA3 doesn't explore this and stays only with the templar/mage conflict from DA2. Further insight as to how the magisters brought the blight down to Thedas is extemely compelling.
