Just killed the high dragon on the mountaintop and took the scale to Wade, when I originally did the urn of sacred ashes none of the drakes dropped scales, so where/how can I get drake scales for him to practice on?

As far as I know the only place the get drake scales are from drakes in the caverns leading up to the High Dragon.

Are you sure you were killing drakes through and not the lesser dragonlings? All the drakes are down dead-end paths I think.

Are you on the pc or console?  This is strange, but I know that I found drakes in the mages tower quest on the PS3, but since switching to the pc version the drakes aren't there anymore.  Weird.

Yea there aren't any in the PC version with the mage tower. There are a lot in the caverns that lead to the high dragon. I think you get like 6 of them.

For those soloing with stealth, I recommend running through the tunnels again without stealth. A few drakes don't spawn (one of those out-of-thin-air ambushes) if the player is in stealth mode.

3 drakes in dead end cavern with animal cages. 2 more in large cavern with overseer- tough fight if you don't use good strategy. One more in dead end cavern past overseer fight- blood mage to deal with there- another good fight. Be sure to pay for Drake Scale Armor to get best armor- gold seems to inspire Wade, in spite of what he says. In PC version only dragonlings in mage tower-easy fight, decent loot in chest if you are using Rabbit (dog).

perhaps I only killed dragonlings and not the lesser drakes, thanks for the input.

Make sure you visited every area of the caverns. You can easily miss them, as they are not in your way but in a place you don't need to visit.

Yup... it is easy to overlook it. In every area I visit I always check the map now-and-then, to check if I didn't overlook any sideways.

PC-version here: (the reason I say this is that there are differences with placement of scales ingame compared to ps3/360 versions and since not everybody knows this they send PC-owners to go drake hunting in circle tower)

I have 5 drake scales atm and have no more drakes to kill:
I killed all six at wyrmtunnels, but only five of them gave me scales. The last one at the eggs where you get the blood mage necklace didn't give me any loot at all.. I have also killed Flemeth, High Dragon and the secret drake in Orzammar but no luck. I have the dragon scale tho' but thats not my issue
I'm on my second playthrough and this happened first time as well.

Can anyone with PC-version confirm if I'm royally screwed? I'm really thorny on getting the drakescale armor here..

I also got a random overland encounter with a drake, along with a mutant bear and a couple of mutant wolves. That's where I got the codex entry about the scales.

There is another drake with Kolgrim outside the temple (if you don't kill him in the caverns), but I guess you're past that point if you already killed the High Dragon.

Have you gone back through the caverns where you killed the drakes and made sure that it just wasn't a late loot drop?  I have never had a drake not drop a scale.

Hm, weird, after Wade made drakescale armour for me, I actually have 2 spare left, and he says that's not enough for another set, so I should search for more and he will make a better one. He already made the one from the high dragon scales.

That is becuase he will make a second set of drakescale, superior this time, if you give him 3 more drake scales.  I've never done it in the other order, though, so I don't know if he'll still make it after he's made armor from the dragon scale.

Well, the quest is still on, so he should, I think. Where's the last drakescale though? (if you remember)

There are 6 drakes, which each usually drop a drake scale, in the Wyrmling Caverns. If you only got 5 you might have missed one, or had one not drop. See up thread for the exact locations in the Caverns.



Getting any other drake scales on top of that is sort of random. That's what Jopeter was already asking, and if you're past the encounter with Kolgrim there's no sure way to get another scale.

The only other way to get one is the random encounter I mentioned.

On the PC you could also possibly edit your save game to crank up the quantity of your scales. I say possibly because the toolset can't load saved games that are close to end-game because of a memory/buffer overload (save game file is too big for toolset). I've done this before when I missed Corpse Galls.

I resolved my issue about an hour after posting earlier. I did as folks mentioned and checked and rechecked the bodies aaaand... no loot. So I went to Wade just for the hell of it and bought the first set and then the second set. And then i bought the dragonbone armor.

What is strange here is that I'm sure I didn't get the loot from the last drake as I was determined to get the scales on this playthrough since I only had 5 scales on my first character and got denied the second drakescalearmor.

Upon entering Wade this time I had 5 drakescales and 1 dragonscale..
