I do not think an NPC Warden/Hawke would be a good idea.

Now we have the Warden/Hawke suddenly disappearing. Reminds me of the Revan/Exile scenario.

Also I think there should be a further difference, if the Warden is an NPC, depending on if you played Awakening or not.
Edit:Oh you know what would be awesome if you had a mage supporting Warden and a Templar supporting Hawke go at eachother. This won't happen for me for my main since both are mage supporters though.

To be honest, Hawk I don't care about...I immensely disliked nearly everything that was DA 2 and, besides, he was never really mine, ya know? He was just a predeveloped character I played rather than defined.
As for my Warden, he disappeared with Morrigan through the mirror. Do I wish that storyline would continue? You betchya, but it won't, not with the direction EA has taken the DA series, so I've relegated myself to being satisfied that she somehow saves him from the taint and they live on. Call me a romantic.

Well as much as I'd like to see them again it would just give the haters more things to moan and whinge about though i would like to know what happened to them
I would love closure. My Warden's story ended at Witch Hunt (or in a tomb in the Anderfels), until Cassandra's line
Now I want to know what Warden she is talking about at the end. It would be cool to see My Hawke and Anders running around helping mages like some sort of "Team Batman," or hiding in the woods, or running away to Tevinter, I dunno.
But unless they give me a hood or a cloak or a helmet or something, I don't want to see them. There is too much they can do so wrong with such a cameo to justify the joy I would get out of seeing them.
Rumors, codices, and former companions showing up are good enough for me.

I can see it working if it is something generic like in a battle or giving a quest of some sort. I imagine my Warden in a tent some where forming combat strats with the current Warden Commander(s) (since in Awakening my Warden eventually left to do her own thing). Hawke is a non-issue since I can just see him doing his thing to support mages with his current L.I.. (Which I am not totally sure who is going to pop up since I managed to get two complete romances by taking advantage of timing flags. Isabella and Merrill. Pretty sure it will be Isabella though I think. Can't remember the name Varric mentioned at the end)
Also I think there should be a further difference, if the Warden is an NPC, depending on if you played Awakening or not.

I actually have something like that in my main playthroughs. My warden supports mages and feels that they deserve to be free (so she was best friends with Anders in Awakening). My hawke (who is a mage
In the end, they are total opposites. I would love to see those two in the same room together...I'd need popcorn.
Back on the topic of the Warden and Hawke being NPC's...
As much as I would love to see both of them, I know it would be a challenge. I just want closure for both of them. I thought my Wardens had closure until I hear Cassandra say those magic words..."Gone. Just like the Warden"
Uh..what

My first Hawke playthrough killed the entire clan of my first Warden playthrough. And my Warden is alive.
Their meeting would end in blood.

My Hawkes weren't all the different: One mage Hawke who was snarky and one rogue Hawke who was diplomatic. They've both given up on helping people since they're terrible at it.
How is Bioware going to show those personalities for every created character? It'll be impossible to please everyone, especially those who want to see their warden exactly as they made them. I'd rather the warden and Hawke were mentioned by side-characters and never shown.
I really hope my Hawke retired from adventuring. She really was terrible at helping people: whole family dead, violent solution to qunari occupation, unwittingly helped start a civil war... it would be best for all of Thedas if she stayed missing.
On a more serious note, my biggest concern with the possibility of Hawke returning is that they make the character a vocal champion of either the mages or templars. Where does that leave Hawkes like mine who were neutral up until the final choice? She fought the templars to stop them from slaughtering the innocent mages, not because she supported mage freedom. Seeing her in any kind of leadership role just wouldn't feel right.
For the Warden, though, I think there's some potential. Here's my ideal situation, which would only happen once per game. Your PC got into a fight they weren't prepared for, and everybody "dies". Before you can reload the game, a shadow comes over the ground. It is a griffon, and riding on the griffon's back is the Warden. Together they kill all your enemies with ease and awesomeness. The Warden walks over to your PC, throws you an injury kit, and waves. As the Warden gets back on the griffon, you see it has a nametag: "Deus Ex Machina". They fly away, and you get a codex entry saying "You just got saved by the famous Warden Commander of Ferelden. You're welcome." The End.

That part made me laugh and I would honestly love that despite how short it would be. XD Replace griffon with awakened darkspawn and I will be set.Bondari the Reloader wrote...

The only way to include them would be a separate DLC where we can down load our PC's and playthrough as them... but, what would really be the point of it in regards to the DA3 game?

Worst. Hero. Ever! (I think that was the point though)
