Something a bit lost in the criticism and or praise of DA2 was the high quality of secondary and quest specific characters. It's a given that people want a lot out of their travelling companions and the main protagonist and antagonist of the game but high quality (writing, voice acting, how they behave) secondary characters really help fill out a game.
Javarris Tintop, Sister Petrice, Ketojan, Thrask, Donnic, Bartrand, Hubert, Emeric were all excellent characters, well voice acted, memorable whether you liked them or hated them. Keep up the good work on these type of characters in DA3.
BioWare, keep up the good work with your secondary or quest specific characters.

I have a lot of criticisms for Dragon Age 2, but they did make some excellent characters. I'd actually say Varric is one of my favourite video game characters ever.
Bioware are also very good at choosing the right voice actors for their npc's. They often suit the characters perfectly.

I couldn't agree more OP.
For me, Sister Petrice is by far one of my fave NPCs introduced in DA2, secondary or not.

I think the more you love... or hate a secondary character is a testament to them being very well written, and acted. I loathed Petrice, and Bartrand, felt very sorry for Thrask and even liked Javarris Tintop for his "colorful language".
In spite of the criticisms about DA2, I don't think anyone can fault the great job done by the writers, and voice actors for the quest specific characters, and also for the companions.

You're right OP. These were some of very few quests involving secondary characters that didn't seem like I was just fetching something or other. Emeric and Thrask really stood out to me (and [edit:] made the decision whether to side with mages or templars harder, as disconnected to it as they seem), Petrice stood out, too, I suppose.
I also liked character-specific quests- I feel DA2 made a significant improvement on the personal quests of your companions when compared to DAO.

DA2 had quite a few flaws, but I agree. They nailed it on the characters. (Now if only we could remove the frivolous need for "Iconic looks" )

Truth. I liked the secondary characters as well. I was annoyed I couldn't side more closely with Petrice against the slave-giants, but that's life.

Says you. The only one I didn't find memorable was Emeric.
