We all know that the Circles in different part of Thedas are different, and that's especially true for Tevinter. The Magocratic system of Tevinter puts much of the social, and political power upon the mages. Having mage elite rule, while everyone else is second best.

Just like Kirkwall and Ferelden, Tevinter also has its own Circle of Magi. It is said that the Templars of Tevinter have little to no power, acting more as city guards than the wardens we see in Kirkwall. Despite the differences in power between the Mage and Templars, the system still applies: the mages are in the Circle and they are watched by the Templars.

So, with all of this in mind, the conflict between the mage and templars are going to be vastly different than we had see in Kirkwall. With the Templars having little to no power, and circle mages practicing potent blood magic on the other side of the fence, I could see this conflict ending not too well for the Templar.

On the otherhand, I could see this conflict challenging the magisters and the society as a whole. From my understanding, the circle mages of Tevinter are ranked from intiate to First Enchanter, just like any Circle in Thedas. But those that exceed the First Enchanters are the magisters who are the ruling elite of the Tevinter. I believe that the Magisters have their own set of rules applied to them, different from the Circle mages. Since the Magisters are the rulers, I'll argue that the Magisters want to keep the system the way it is.

So, if there were ever a rebellion of mages within the Tevinter Circle, not only will the mages face Templars, they will also face Magister elites and Mages who run the Chantry.

Templars have the ability to disable mages powers. They also resistant against it. Also, the mages are vastly outnumbered. They need to deal with the Templars, the Inquisition, the Sekeers and the army. This is why they choose to use blood magic and help of demons, the war will be bloody yes, but i'ts on Church favor.

Of course, in a conventional sense, mages will be in a disadvantage because they have always been contained by the Chantry. But I think the Mage-Templar war will be different in Tevinter since it's a Magocratic society, where the most powerful mages rule.

The army right now is fighting a civil war so they are busy. But the army is commanded by the nobilty and the empress. The templars just started an unsanctioned war against the mages in orlais itsself. Thats treason against the nation of orlais. Unless the templars can convince the empress otherwise things do not look good for the templars.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the Chantry, and everything that is part of the Chantry, is independent from any one nation. Just look at Kirkwall guards, they decided not to be part of the conflict in A3, but instead protect the citizens from collateral damage. Meaning that the Orlesian army will not be part of the Mage-Templar war.

Also, whos army are you referring to? Is it the conflict between Ferelden and Orlais which Alistair referred to in DA2?

It probably depends on how powerful the country in question in. The Empress of Orlais, if she really, really wanted, could probably expel the Templars, or subdue them and force them to bend the knee, as it's implied that the Orlesian court subsidizes part of the Chantry's finances.

Good point and I agree.

But I'm sure there are major consequences for such actions which the Empress do not want. Plus, I think It would be beneficial for the Empress to stay neutral because if she sided with either one. ie by subsidizing the Templars, political oppositions could use that as fuel to throw her out of power.
