We all know, given the information we have that DA3s central theme will involve the Templar-Mage war.

And as you'll see in every Templar-Mage thread, people will point out that the only way the war will end is if one side is annihilated. Except, that will never happen. Magic will always exist, new mages will always be born. As well as people always fearing mage and thinking it needs controlling, new Templars will always rise.

Unless one side forfeits, the cycle will never end, unless a threat big enough for mages and templars to set aside their differences emerges and threatens Thedas/Orlais.

The war will only reach a conclusion if, one side is wiped out (won't ever happen), one side forfeits (again highly unlikely) or if a 3rd force intervenes.

What or Who do you believe this 3rd force would be if this was the case?

This could include..

- A blight (Too soon? Or the true blight finally surfacing)
- A Qunari Invasion
- A Tevinter Invasion
- Return of the old Gods
- Return of the Maker

Would be interesting if the end of DA3 had this force surface, foreshadowing the next plot.

Like... game ending with a large battle along the shore of Orlais, Templars vs Mages, one side wins, cheering etc etc, the sounds die down and the victors look out to sea, camera pans to show thousands of Quanri dreadnoughts heading for the shore.

Uhh I could see the Templar rebels being put into the ground by a reconciled Chantry and Mage faction, the Templars are really the sticking point since they're out for blood at this point and I doubt the Mages would submit to them at all, since Chantry is third wheeling this with a lenient look towards the mages and having their sword arm randomly grow legs and run away screaming all bloody murder.

But since a lot of people seem to want a defined evil I'm going to say aliens. Or well Fade stuff mages be fighting veil be thinning demons be tripping etc.

I certainly feel that someone or something will seek to take advantage of the Mage/Templar conflict. Orlais is on the brink of civil war too as I understand. It may be this third force will be the true threat of the game and with the mage/templar war coupled with other conflicts is there moment to strike. I suspect someones looking to gain from this and they'll likely not want you sorting this conflict out.

I think the plot would be

The Inquisitor while investigating somehow dragged a plot to open the Veil and so every manner of demons and spirit will come into this world, non mages will become Mages automatically, mages will be born rapidly in Thedas. This what i understand via Sandal prophecy.

Now the Inquisitor have TWO choice.

1. Open the gate, and everything will be like above, Inquisitor sided with the group or someone who make the plot

2. Close the gate, that means siding with the army that being gathered to fought the demon and spirit that will come out from the gate plus the conspirator army. Qunari maybe become an ally IF the second choice is the what we choose. The Tevinter MAYBE helping or not helping depends on principle.

Edit : ferelden will send reinforcement depends on our choice, if we side the conspirator, then they all become the enemy

But of course we have to face some conflicts between Qunari vs Tevinter vs Orlais....before we decide above

Just a thought.....

Edit : I think the conspirators are the one who create the first Blight

Edit ; And i think the Blight is created to weaken the veil, and so the ArchDEMON can rule.

Edit : And in DA3 we learn the truth about what really happen, only that we choose to side the conspirator, end the conflict and become the dark messiah or destroy them and thus end all conflict, become the true messiah

I hope they don't decide to go with a "Return of the Old Gods" or a "Return of the Maker" theme. It's too early in the series. Doing so would destroy much of the background lore and tensions and change the everything in Thedas.

The idea of a third "side" in the conflict makes a lot of sense, particularly in light of the Templars and the mages having broken free of Chantry rule. The Inquisition could be that third force, brought into being to stop both sides from slaughtering their way across the whole of the continent.

Tevinter Imperium tore the veil to weaken a political foe and allow the demons to spill out.

They can't send armies to weaken Orlais since they're dealing with the Qunari. So, they hit Orlais behind the scenes and one way is to weaken the veil and bring those atrocities on Orlais.

Tevinter Imperium is the 3rd force manipulating the war with their endless forbidden magic practices.

Flemeth will not play a major part but she will be interested enough to prevent chaos from happening in Thedas for her selfish agenda.
