Why are you simply comparing which is the better game. The Baldur's Gate story is an exciting experience, and if you are unable to enjoy it just because you miss your new 3D graphics or modern controls... then I'd just call you spoiled.

Why? Most games of yesteryear are almost unplayable to me because of the ugly visuals.

Well, it is quite an adjustment, (graphics-wise) even going from playing Mass Effect to Jade Empire. But, if this game is awesome as people say, I will be getting it once I buy my new laptop ;)

The thing about Baldurs Gate graphics is, well, they are not bad for a 10+ year old game, they are just drawn differently.

Take a look at this video for example, would you say that this game was terrible, hard to look at, or ugly? Can you not identify what is going on? To almost all my friends, they can easily tell whats going on in that video, and actually liked the almost artistic value of the game.

I wouldn't like to argue the fact that if you find visuals important, then that's ok, but rather this : For me personally, graphics are nothing compared to story. I wouldn't have any problem if Dragon Age had the same graphics of Baldur's Gate. It's simply because, from a scale from 1 to 10, I rate graphics a 1 in importance.
But to everyone it's own, right? :D

What ruins the Baldur's Gate series for me is not the graphics but the 2nd Edition AD&D rules.

Amen.
The graphics are horrible but that's not my main reason for disliking BG1 and 2. The ruleset, the slow pacing and dull character interaction(although I admit Minsc was awesome) made me give up on that series.

I mean there's a few other Isometric games of the day that I like such as IWD and Arcanum so it's not that I hate it because of the graphics. The game just gets old, fast.

The character interaction was great for its time, but compared to newer games where standard became increasingly higher such as Mass Effect or DA it does pale in comparision.  Honestly the only game I would reccomend playing from that era is Planescape Torment for the story alone.  All other games from that time (Fallout 1&2, BG1&2) I along with many others would have an extremely difficult time playing because of the technological advancements made since.  I bet we're going to be saying the same thing about Dragon Age a decade from now too

I love BG but I admit the pacing is slower than some people can tolerate. It picks up once we get to Baldur's Gate city, but until then there's a lot of foresty maps to wander across and explore. That's just not interesting to some people. Bioware addressed this in BG2.

The IWD series was meant to attract Diablo players so it's full of combat and little else. I like it for that though, when I'm in the mood for deploying a boot to the arse.

Did....

Did you just say Mass Effect and Dragon Age have more Character Interaction then Baldurs Gate 2/Throne of Bhaal?

Have you even PLAYED those games? I mean, off the top of my head, I can think of at least 100+ conversations just dealing with the De Arneise Keep alone, this is not counting exploring, other side quests, the main story, the Underdark, Irenicus, Throne of Bhaal yada yada yada.

I remember each character and their personality from BG2, even though I havem't played it for something like 7+ years now, I remember almost all of their thoughts, opinions, ideas, feelings, EVERYTHING, in almost every area of the game, I remember Anomens rage at his sisters death, Cernds quest for his family, I remember almost all of Jan Jansens stories, and Viconias utter hatred of him, which eventually turned into somewhat of admiration as the series went on.

There has NEVER been a game with so much party interaction as Baldurs Gate 2, not even Planescape is close to the amount of stuff your party ends up saying in Baldurs Gate 2, or how you influence them, or how they evolve, I mean, jesus, how can you even COMPARE Mass Effects interaction to that of Baldurs Gate 2, all it is is a bunch of people filling out your goddamn Codex every now and then, and two chicks who ask you if you want to sleep with them five seconds after meeting them because thats "romantic" and they "wuv you"

I mean, nothing Bioware has made has ever topped Sarevoks Redemption for me, which was this MASSIVE Character building sidequest where my actions slowly brought a utterly Chaotic Evil individual into Chaotic Good, and not just by bringing him something, or talking him out of it, it was literally months of showing him better actions, helping him improve, all sorts of things, and it was one of the proudest moments I have ever had in video gaming when he rejected a specific persons offer, and cried because of how hs actions ended up killing his one true love Tamoko.

And thats just something for a fairly minor character who appears in the last part of the series, Yoshimos actions, Viconia telling her life story, and becoming a better person, Mazzys desire to be a Paladin, I could go on forever really with the character development that happened in Baldurs Gate 2, it was amazing, and has not been surpassed at all since.

Which is fine. I really have no problem with people's preferences, it's just that mister over there decided to make a rather personal remark.
