One race means one background for me.

Congratulations, bioware... you destroyed Dragon Age.

Yes, we get it, you don't like that the PC will be human, just like some people don't like the fact that he/she will be voiced. Moving on....

Congrats! You get it! (but I like the voices too...)

So all humans have the same motivation and history?
You elves/dwarves are all racist!

No. Bioware is racist.

Noble- more starting money
Military- Better starting strength/constitution
Commoner- Better cunning/dexterity

That approach will bing the undesirable effect of "tailor made" backgrounds for classes. They're all humans. Hopefully the stat system is more flexible like DA:O than the "dump your points here" system of DA2.

Couldn't agree with you more, there. I think that backgrounds should strictly affect roleplay and story, but as far as gameplay goes, shouldn't have an effect in any way.

Edit: Well, except for being/not being a mage, of course. Image IPB

I'm guessing/betting that they'll have more personal backgrounds; including the human PC having an elf parent, and opportunities to explore that.
A human raised by an alienage elf, or by the dalish... maybe the same with dwarves (but atm I can't remember the lore for what results from a dwarf/human connection).

I'd like an "Assassin" style background for rogues(not the specialization, though that can be in too)

Everything is terrible if you just decide to ignore anything good about them, like the fact that there are mutiple background...i tire of people like you.

I think the backgrounds will be more in-depth than simply where you come from. I'm hoping for something like ME. Where(social status) you were born, select an event that defined your childhood/personality or an event that brought you to a height of being recognized as a candidate for Inquisitor.

I'm going to pick Sole Survivor. The one where a High Dragon attacks and you're the only one who survived.

And then you are going to team up with a young dwarven warrior who needs to take a puberty ritual by taking down a high dragon.  Your character wil have no adverse effects or additional dialogue on the subject.

But did you go nuts and kill it with a wheat scythe or cower in the crawlspace under the house and whimper like an abused puppy? (Please note that this user does not condone the abuse of puppies. It was just a visual. Thank you.)

I'm so afraid DA is going to head this way despite stating otherwise... but I'll keep my hopes up XP

Your character will...have been born of a virgin birth whose mom will be conspicably absent when you use an Eluvian to contact all of your buddies in various places before the final battle in the third act.

But hey, Leliana will tell you off handedly that she's safe after the Darkspawn attack. And you'll have a talk with Cullen about your families where you exchange meaningless platitudes about your loved ones still being okay as the Darkspawn and/or Qunari plunge the entire gala-sorry, WORLD, into darkness.

So it's all good.

I think they will be a two tiered choice. Origin Story----> Social Status
