But seriously, no. They're not there to intimidate me, they're there for me to judge which one is pretty and which one is not. I'm neutral about Lone Wolf; it could do without Shepard obviously, but it's cool.

I don't get intimidated by it, but I do expect that if you're going to wear that banner then you shouldn't die halfway across the map, bleed out because no one can get to you and then pitch a fit and leave rather than using a medigel to get back up.

What I've seen work as a good deterrant though is Firebase Condor set as the active map.
People run away pretty fast when they see that map.

 i found a way to make myself love that map, i just dont go on the mountaintop anymore, unless everyone's dead and i have to finish the wave solo. I'll join ya!

I actually started to like Condor just because of that mountain top and my knack for running away really really fast.
I did do the 10 gold matches there though already for Nomad. Game says I'm 80% done!

on the lower levels sure, but when you search for u/u/b to test something and end up in a lobby full of low points/rated people wiht junk equipped and they change to silver or gold while one of them has a lw banner i dont hang about.

I leave lobbies instantly when:
- the lobby doesn't contain my desired enemy or map
- the lobby contains a fury with a typhoon ^^ (just as an example)

They can sense the smell of cheetos and the deep breathing from their microphones. If they don't stay in the circle or refrain from melee'ing a Banshee, they'll get gurgle-esque sound telling them to get some better skills.

It's awful how much of an embarrassment the Lone Wolf banner has become.

On day one I didn't even know doing a gold run gives you silver and bronze too.
So I went through all Bronze runs, all Silver runs then 2 Gold runs and the day after Retaliation I spent hours to get the Platinum too.

And now all it's worth is making you look like a ****?

I like that banner, however I don't like that you don't have to solo Platinum for it necessarily and how cheap it has become with that.

I'm a Lone Wolf, so what?
I run my matches not even thinking a split second about insta-dropping a missile to save a Teammate. I rather insta Medi Gel then get someone into danger coming to rez me where I just died because I know coming to pick someone up is #1 on how to get yourself killed, don't blame me, blame the ping my vanguard relies on.

Keeping the bad guys away from my Team even in objective rounds is a main priority, HOWEVER I know a lot of ppl don't see it that way that's why I always stick with the Objective.
Yes, I charge out to take down the heat coming from Primes/Ravagers focusing my squad - can't blame me for that.

Picking up a fallen teammate? Max priority, even if the last mob infront of me is a husk and would finish the wave, I'll pick you up first.

All in all I see the message the banner might be sending, but you're forgetting about those who do not even get close to anything of that impression.

The couple of lone wolf bannered players I played with were aholes, who played as though they were still by themselves. Maybe people similar experiences?

I've never had anyone leave due to my banner.

And NO, it is not the easiest to get. It's the quickest, which is entirely different. Most players (not necessarily most on BSN) can't solo Gold regardless of what kit they use.
