Are there any people out there who can or will make more mods for DA 2? Reason I ask is, there is potential for more areas to be discovered, more taverns to be seen in, more romances to be a part of, and just in general to expand on the map.

I have noticed there aren't many mods for DA 2 as of now. Just a few here and there and most of them are weapon mods and model and hair mods along with npc and companion mods. Is anyone going to keep working on more mods as they did on DAO and are still doing to this day?

Just curious, is all.

Modding DA2 is more limited because the toolset is designed for DA:O. DA2 introduced changes to file structures throughout the game, and the DA:O toolset isn't equipped to deal with it.

Why didn't they make a Tool Set for DA 2, or a Tool Set thatwas compatible to all DAs that are out and DA 3 coming out?

Just wondering is all.

Hi Papa. Good to see you. I don’t know why they opted to not provide a tool for DA2. I would imagine the cost had a lot to do with it. I am hoping they have made some allowance for DA3, but again it is a different engine and that means a lot of changes I would think. You will probably be able to get armors and weapons shortly after the release, but as far as game play mods it is pretty much dependant on a tool.

I suspect if they have a tool I will build at least one mod this time around.
Cheers, ta-raa

They didn't release a toolset for DA2 because they used some third party proprietary tools to make DA2. Getting permission to use the same tools in a toolset would have been expensive. Also, creating a toolset for public use is a non trivial task that would have required allocating several people to do it.

TL:DNR: Lack of money and people.

Had they been willing to release the database files, some one most likely would have modified DAO's toolset to be able to run them (all the tools for the Sims3 mods are in fact player made). Fact is, they don't want that type of modding available for PC gamers for whatever reason.

Awakening never had the database files released either, which is why mods for that is limited as well.

It's short-sighted. Mods by far extend playability.

Did they ever state any sort of reason why they never released the Origins DLC for the toolset? I know we're never going to get it, just curious.

The lack of a toolset for DA2 and the probable lack of tools for DA3 has driven off many modders to games that are far more mod-friendly. It's a shame, because there was a very strong modding community around here for DAO, and after Awakening came out, like EJ said, it started to shed modders like crazy. At this point, they would need to do a lot to attract modders back to this game series, and i doubt that's on the agenda.

Charsen, how are you? It is so long since I saw you.

I fear you are right. Also a shame as It appears that some of the other game makers are providing enough assistance to lure mod makers their way.

Anybody have any ideas on how to make a Tool Set for DA 2 and the upcoming DA 3? I think both games at the least deserve a chance. I'm willing to try at least. I've been thinking about the homemade Tool Set for Sims 2 and Sims 3 which of course I also have. LOL Been thinking maybe if someone could give any ideas at all......

Honestly, I never did get the hang of working the Tool Set for DAO, but I know how to use the GECK for all the FallOut Series and the Construction Set for the Elder Scrolls Series, but never for the DA series.

The problem is not the toolset -- that would most likely take care of itself IF the database files were released. As you point out, with the Sims 2 and 3 there are fan-made modding tools.  I would lay odds that there would be a workable front end program if those files had been released -- apparently the DAO toolset is not very different from what was used with DA2. However, the database files weren't released for Awakening nor were they released for DA2.

How do I go about asking or submitting to see if I can get the requested database files to be released for Awakening AND DA 2?

They are no longer actively supporting DA2, it is extremely unlikely that they will devote resources towards making the databases available.

EA is moving more towards a DLC model than a modding friendly model. Why let users make mods for free when they can sell you DLC?

DLCs are age old...Look at Fallout and Oblivion. Even DAO and DA2. Yet, there has always been a way to mod them for free. Why? People like to get their hands on them, do things with them that the company could never imagine it could ever be done with that game.

Fallout 4 is coming out soon as is DA 3, and FO4 is going to be a moddable game with dlcs. Take a look how long and popular Fallout games are still to this day. Even I play them because they are my favorite. They are still being modded as we speak. DA 3 may not be moddable, I'll bet you it has a shelf life quicker and less money making shelf life than any of its predecessors and other games I mentioned.

Bethesda (the guys making the Elder Scrolls games and Fallout games) is a more user friendly and mod-community oriented company than EA.

You're comparing apples to oranges here.

This is pretty much why a developer-supported modding toolset was never created for DA2 and why DA3 will probably be the same. Several of the writers and other devs posting on the forums recognize that modding could actually boost DLC sales by extending the game's shelf life, but the thing is that a lot of money has to go into licensing the tools that modders would need to use the developer toolset and a lot of people would have to work on making the toolset usable by modders. When that money and manpower could go somewhere else (such as new games and DLC), it's unlikely it'll get the green light.

Long story short: BioWare knows a toolset could extend the life of DA games and boost DLC sales. It's just too expensive for too little gain (by BioWare) to justify the costs.

I would love to see Modding come back in the next game... I have really enjoyed watching the fanmade videos made using the toolset!
