I'm getting more and more frustrated by the lack of pause during cut scenes in the last several Bioware games. Without fail something real-life related will happen during cut scenes to  force the player out of the game, usually several times each game. Autotalk makes this much worse as the game/scene happily plays conversation and interaction between NPC, PC, companions etc. while the player is AFK.

Add to that that you can't exit the conversation to reload a save during a cutscene/conversation (if the game paused waiting for player input). Rather the player has to sit through many long (and seemingly increasing with every game) minutes of cutscene and conversation before you can go back and see what you missed. At that point I personally probably don't care any more and just move along, just a little more less interested in the game as a whole.

This is a feature that was available in older games and needs to be brought back.

Well... Can't comment on all systems but PS3 users can pause in cutscenes in DA2 and ME3

Yeah, I remember being able to pause Mass Effect 1 with Xbox button.

Then in ME3 and DA2 I don't think it was possible. It's annoying when I try to immerse myself in a story, and someone walks into the room and starts talking, making me miss out on the dialogue :P

There's no way to describe my horror at seeing people walking in on me watching DAO secks scenes.

In other news yes, pausing during cutscenes AND dialogues would be very handy

ME3 pauses when you hit the xbox button too. And I know DA2 can be paused on the ps3 by hitting the PS button, so I can't imagine that it wouldn't work the same way since those functions seem to always be mapped to mirror each other across systems like that).

I have ME2/3 on PS3 but haven't played it there (the wife's has been playing those) so I'll have to check it later. I'm pretty sure there is no pause on PC though, I just started a new ME3 playthrough where I was unable to pause during a conversation as well...

They should incorporate the cutscene pause feature all across the board, not just for certain systems.

Yeah, it would be handy. Sometimes I gotta pee. Sometimes the doorbell rings or an important phone call comes in.

But I save often too. But that's because Origins trained me to because of missed cut scenes.

So . . . yeah.

Both Xbox and PS3 can pause any c/s. I'm sure PC also has a way.

...Since it's meant to be "the master race" ;) but hey if it can't manage pausing c/s's...

Sorry, it must've been ME2 that wouldn't stop at the Xbox button.

Sorry.

This is something I support and it's something I actually champion when I get chances!

It is tracked in our backlog of features for the digital acting crew (of which I am a member), but it is a "nice to have" which effectively means it's a stretch goal at this point in time. Sadly, this means that I should encourage you to NOT expect it.

It's not a task that we'd expect to be superbly time consuming to do, it's just when you have hundreds of tasks that aren't superbly time consuming to do, they do add up and lines have to be drawn somewhere.

Sorry to be the bearer of not entirely super awesome news, but it was something that I had actually mentioned in the past as well so I just wanted to stay open about it.

PC's could pause back in the NWN/NWN2 days...

I'd be happy if somebody gave me a smack with the 'ol clue stick and showed me how to pause any DA or ME game on PC during a cut scene. Pretty sure it is impossible.

This was a thinly veiled dig at PC players, as the console players do have a way to pause any cutscene.

If you bring up the Origin overlay in ME3 it will pause the cutscene.  However I'm not sure about DAO and DA2.

I know that both DA:O and DA2 can be paused during a cutscene by hitting the xbox button.  I have had to do this quite a few times. Posted Image

Atleast we have an inside champion!

This does get more important in the newer games as much more stuff happens in cut scenes than the older games, and some cut scenes are very long indeed.

Ah well, at least you all know that we would appreciate a return of the feature.  And hey- maybe if we all keep bi***ing about it, the importance factor will go up for DA4.

I'm curious why pausing isn't designed to just work all the time.  Is it because cutscenes are a fundamentally different interface from regular gameplay?

In NWN2, pausing during cutscenes or conversations or anywhere else worked exactly the same way no matter the circumstances.  I can't help but wonder why this ever isn't the case.

That said, I'm annoyed that I lose camera control during cutscenes and conversations. I don't see why the interface changes at all.

See, that is where I have trouble understanding what's happening. You support it, fans want it and it doesn't take much work.
In the past BW was a developer that just did those things prerelease to deliver the best game possible. I understand EA wants to throw the games on the market as soon as possible, but both DA2 and ME3 suffered because of this hurry.

Just take the time you need, deliver the best game possible and reap the deserved praise. There have to be at least some people at EA that see that a lot of the problems with BW's latest games were due to much to early release dates, especially with SW-Tor.

It's much better to do this work prior to the release instead of having a fragstorm of anger like with ME3 and DA2.
I think no one wants the whole fiasco with the ME3 ending and the Extended ending DLC again.

I assure you, I'm not just here to unleash my wrath against BW. On the contrary, I was burned by ME3, but recognized the effort BW went to to make up for it and make the game experience better for us fans.

I just want it to not be neccessary at all.

Hopefully this little feature willl be moved a bit up in the long line of other little task on the devs' list.
