anders is not a terrorist. sandal is a perfect crazy companion (dwarf mage). The cake is a lie.

Blows up a church filled with innocent people in order to instigate a conteniental wide war. If that's not terrorism I don't know what is.

Revolutionist?

Terrorism is a tactic, revolution is a goal. The saying, "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" isn't meant to be a zero sum, either/or statement. It's about perspective and which aspect of their character takes priority depending on who you are.

In any case crazy tends to mean unreliable which tends to mean conflicts with the protagonist.  That kinda thing isn't terribly popular 'round these parts, especially if you can't avoid recruiting them or removing them from your party.  Still, I'm for it as long as it's interesting and relevant.

I think a good way to gauge terrorism with some level of objectivty (so as to avoid the terrorist vs. freedom fighter dilemna) is to assess whether or not they kill civillians or innocent bystanders. I find this is a pretty good gold standard both in the real world and in Thedas.

I don't want to get into a whole thing about Anders yet again, and I don't even think he'd pass the "innocents or civilians" test with everyone around here.  I go even simpler and say terrorism is politically-motivated violence or threat of violence.  But, to stay on topic, I don't think he's properly crazy.  Perhaps if he's 100% Rivaled he might be considered that, but a Friendpath or Neutral Anders seems pretty in-control.

I'm pretty sure that portraying mental illness in a way that doesn't really perpetuate the horrible stigma it gets isn't something that games in general do well. And I'm not sure I wouldn't spend most of the game irritated by whatever they came up with.

I wouldn't mind if it was treated well. And the character wasn't "crazy" but had something specific they were dealing with that maybe made the character not 100 percent stable. I always enjoy unreliable narrators. Or people whose motives I can't trust for various reasons. I loved reading Cole because you couldn't believe everything he thought.

Bloodlines did insanity pretty well with the Voerman sisters. Supposedly, the developers actually read up on their condition and tried to go for realism. With vampire magic thrown in, obviously. But on the whole, I thought it was a pretty good portayal.

Shame that kind of thing is the exception, not the rule.

So... yeah. I don't think Bioware should give us an insane companion unless they're prepared to do a lot of work.
