Wow, I see the real reasons why you don't like Alistair.

1. You got royally dumped.
2. Alistair is not bad boy enough to go on a murdering rampage when things don't go his way, but instead just walk away.
3. Alistair does not swing your way.

Come to Alistair gush thread and we will solve your number 1 and 3 issues. As for number 2, well sorry but our little adorkable prince does not go that way :-)

Yeah, TBE is a little … nuts about the whole Alistair thing. Or nuts period.

That, or she's trolling. Or maybe a little of both.

Adorkable... Wow, was that on purpose? Because that actually kinda fits. Alistair is absolutely adorable and kinda a dork. Image IPB

And, there's an Alistair gush thread?? Where, where??

Because:

a) His jokes aren't funny to me. Shocking, I know. Some people have a different sense of humor.
B) He says that Warden should be willing to do what must be done and then he berates me when I sacrifice either Isolde or Connor to save his uncle.
Yeah, you're a great warden. /sarcasm
c) He can't stand criticism. Though this is almost all of the companions but still.
d) His a grey warden but he he lets his emotions control him over Loghain. I'm not going to kill Loghain simply because he demands it.

Loghain is a better fighter than alistair, a more responsible person, doesn't let his emotions cloud him and actually cares more about his country than his personal life even after he lost everything he valued.

DarkKnightHolmes stated some of my reasons -- I articularly agree with the sense of humour argument; I know, some people find things like "Swooping is bad" funny, but I... don't. At all. One bit.

I also don't like the way he reacts to the Redcliffe demon choice -- sure, being angry if someone was/had to be sacrificed is understandable, my characters are angry as well, even if they saw the choice as necessary -- but if you have high enough Cunning, you can point out that it's not about either Isolde or Connor, but about him and Eamon. Alistar doesn't dispute that either. and while that is still human and understandable, it doesn't mean I have to like it.

There's also him calling my LI/best friend a **** (and no, Alitsair, if you're an arse to her, you don't get to complain if she's an arse to you). And understandable sure, but I don't have to like his decision to abandon Ferelden either. (Which reminds me, you know what I would have liked to see? If he'd said "Screw you" to the warden and done what he believed was right -- punish Loghain -- himself, or at least attempted to do that.) And while it's nice to see someone break the mold of emotionally repressed man, I repress plenty myself, so his... openness probably doesn't help. But that's just me not being good at handling negative emotions, I admit.

And in the end... our personalities are just incompatible and he's not the sort of person or character I like. It happens.

(But I'd never hurt an actual puppy. I'd only hug them. Hug all the puppies <3)

Maybe I'm just too stupid to build a decent sword and shield warrior, but if I compare my experiences with Alistair with the one with Loghain... Loghain tended to do a lot better.

I built Alistair as a strengh/dex tank he was nearly unkillable and did good damage at that point Loghain however has most of his points in willpower*which is a useless stat to me since I don't build my tanks around sustainables*

Huh I went for strength/constitution... Maybe Dexterity just works better. And I dunno, Loghain rarely died on me even without me paying attention to his sutainables, does he get beneficial bonus points from his equipment? I usually only change his crappy sword and leave the rest.

I just knew someone would say that but no. Statwise, Alistair will only "******" on Loghain is because you get to actally build Alistair and Loghain comes around the end of the game. For some people, their Alistair and Loghain stats are around the same. Secondly, Loghain is around 30 years older than Alistair and yet he can still go toe to toe with all the enemies we face and is still good enough to handle the Archdemon. If he was in his prime, I think he would kick the whole parties ass at once.

See I don't make that choice based on fluff I look at the character's stats Loghain has most of his in will power*which as I said is useless to me* I build my tanks around dex thus Alistair beats Loghain.

Plus even if i was I don't see Loghain the same way you do I see a guy who makes screw up after screw up and has them come back to bite him in the ass.

How many people does Alistair try to guilt me into killing? How many people do I kill out of self-preservation? Nobody's saying the Warden is a pacifist, but there is a distinct difference between killing people because they are trying to kill you, and killing a man who's on his knees and has just surrendered.

Did you spare Caladrius, then?

While I get the point of bringing Caladrius up, the situation is different.  A Loghain in the Grey wardens will have no power, he will be told what to do by the more senior grey wardens, and he has a good chance of dying at the end of it.  Caladrius isn't just walking out with his own life, but the life of his slaves as well.  If he were willing to exchange the slaves for money, and leave them behind, then maybe I could let him walk.  But the fact that he is bringing elven slaves with him when he leaves, that is a lot less palatable of a choice.

I realize that to Allistair's perspective, these things are similar.  Allistair probably feels that a Loghain who is allowed to lived is walking away with the lives he has already taken, or maybe he is afraid Loghain will do it again in the future if he is alive.  But the two situations are different because Caladrius has the lives on others in his hand at the moment of the choice, whereas Loghain is a beaten and vulnerable man with his power stripped from him already.

So basically "statwise" only matters when it's stat that you're good with. Good to know.

And how did he screw up after screw up. The only screw up he did was let Bann Teagan run his mouth in his court. He should've just shouted "I slept with your sister. Now shut up". Maybe Teagan would've listened then instead of going on about how he lost his useless nephew and start the civil war.

Doesn't it always unless you enjoy gimping yourself for rp reasons?

Let's see how about the fact that his actions throw Ferelden into a civil war?Or how he didn't even bother getting rid of the evidence of his questionable dealings?

He didn't throw them into a civil war. He wanted them united. The people started a civil war not him, And what evidence did he need to get rid off? He didn't have the slavery deal papers so he couldn't get rid of that.

So I should start ignoring the man who knows the most about the darkspawn and how to deal with them  and listen to newbie and vengeance-driven Alistair instead?

And barely know what? Riordan knows everything that happens. The Wardens accept anyone who has the arms to fight the darkspawn, personal feelings and history doesn't dictate who joins the Warden.

If he's as smart as you say he is then how did he not see it coming why not let his dauther try to smooth things over rather then basically telling her to stay in the kitchen?Jowan and the Templar he bribed and gee he couldn't bother to tell Howe *"make sure this can't be connected to me okay?" regarding the torture and slavery?

On the other hand, Riordan's answer to "Why won't he betray us?" doesn't really answer the question.

Edit: Your Warden being too trusting aside, that's not a good recommendation for Riordan's judgement, that he basically gives an adhominem "us too" against the Wardens and expects the Warden to accept that as "He's safe, don't worry."
