Wait just a ticket, Alistair... there was an 'us'? (spoilers :D)

Apparently, I was wrong.
After I hacked Loghain's head off just a bit, I made Alistair king, expecting him to chew me out in his tirade about how he didn't want to be king and whatnot. You can expect my surprise when he instead approaches my poor little elf, saying we need to talk about 'us'. Apparently their 'blossoming romance' had to come to an end now that he's king. The only indication I can remember ever giving him that he could take as there being an 'us' was when I told him he's cute when he's sarcastic at the beginning of Redcliffe. Mind you, this was in response to me just calling him an idiot.
So really, now I'm just thinking, what the hell? How do you get from -32 (or whatever it must have been) approval rating to "We need to talk about 'us'?" It'll certainly make it much harder to watch him give his heartfelt eulogy after my girl goes all suicide on his ass and destroys the Archdemon once and for all.
Oh well. At least it got me down another -10 approval points.

But having a character who never even got the lampost dialogue, consistantly abused him, berated him, ect...now that has to be a big bug.
Maybe one that should be fixed in future patches, olike his post landsmeet king dialogue, where even if you crowned Anora and kept him off the throne, he still talks like he's the king.
Thanks for sharing this, as I plan to play a total **** elf myself, and I certainly would not have seen THAT coming.

Ruining my gaming experience, this is. *shakes fist* At least I made him king, so I can avoid that little bit of kingly mis-talk of his, but if he kills himself at the end instead of Baslaami and I have to redo that god-long Archdemon ballista battle, or even dares to say he loved her in the epilogue, then someone will need some serious rantin' to. >
Silly Alistair, sticking his nose where it's not wanted, or really even tolerated. It shall be the death of him one day.

I think there's a glitch with the approval bar thing, really, because if the approval rating is that low they really shouldn't still be in love with you.

You'd think so, right? <_<
I had a similar problem with my male PC and Morrigan, but they didn't have such negative relationship bar. They were neutralish with each other while he was romancing Leliana, but all of a sudden Morrigan decided it was cold in her tent. I kinda had a WTF moment there. Suffice to say, he told her to find a blanket.

I just played a game where my intention all along was to let him fall in love with me...I accepted his rose and his kiss and kept his approval up but never did his personal quest and never slept with him. Intent was so that he'd volunteer for the final blow and I wouldn't have to order it. I made Anora queen and he's telling me at the Archdemon that he doesn't want to be king.
You're NOT king, ******!

Aha, really? I find it quite the opposite.
Morrigan, while devious and just a bit too secretive about her baby in the end (as the baby's daddy, my PC demands answers D:<), seems pretty chill to me. Like, she'll do whatever in her power to satisfy her desires, regardless of who it'll hurt along the way. That's pretty hxc to me.
Leliana, on the other hand, is a bit... off her rocker? I mean, she's taking dreams and rosebushes a little too seriously and on top of that, watches the PC sleep at night. Like a creeper. She seems like a child to me, as well as being potentially insane. Not to mention her voice is grating.

I really do like Morrigan as a woman. She's interesting and my heart goes out to her even when I want to stomp on her toes and tell her to hush.
But as a guy, the whole "Tis cold in my tent" is the biggest turn off. Even her voice can't make that appealing. Gah. Need a shower just thinking about it. "Subtlety, thy name is NOT Morrigan."
I've romanced Leliana twice, once as a male and once as a female, but only my fairly messed up female got along with Leliana. My good, noble dwarf thought she was crazy and hearing her banter with Alistair about how she killed men for a living was...not good. Not sexy.

Check the dialog on Alistair's rose, and see where he gets it. Just as an interesting aside to the topic here, it is likely that the single rose he finds on a dead rose bush is Leliana's rose, the day after her dream/vision thing. He does tell you he found it in Lothering. It's a thing that both Alistair and Leliana find powerful for the same reason. Whether that makes it more, or less creepy, I couldn't say.MEUTRIERE wrote...

Wow, I never thought of that. That would explain why it's not just a wilted dead thing when he gives it to you after weeks and weeks of traveling anyway.

Here are two banter things that are fine in general, but deal killers to a monogamous, honor-bound and appearance-obsessed noble dwarf. First because it looks like she's using him. Second because she'd clearly toss him over for Morrigan in a heartbeat. He was horrified.
I did okay with my pretty chaotic and self-centered woman because I thought it just meant Leliana was teasing other people and I could kill her if she tried anything on me. To her this was just sorta funny and sounded like the sort of thing she'd have said herself to people just to mess with them.
Alistair is a good monogamous option because he doesn't start flirting with other people while I'm in party...or talking about his exploits.
[*]Alistair: You know, I've heard about the Orlesian bards.
[*]Leliana: Who hasn't? They're quite famous, after all.
[*]Alistair: The stories I heard were a little... racier. It had to do with how a bard assassinated her target. How they were... lulled into complacency.
[*]Leliana: If those stories were true, who would ever agree to entertain a bard in their court?
[*]Alistair: Oh, I don't know, there's a certain allure to danger, isn't there? And besides, you couldn't all be assassins, could you? I'd take my chances. If the stories were true, that is.
[*]Leliana: We had rules about that sort of thing. Strict rules.
[*]Alistair: Such as? You're not going to tell me, are you?
[*]Leliana: Let's just say I had plenty of reasons to join the Chantry, shall we? And leave it at that.
[*]
[*]Leliana: "You are very beautiful Morrigan."
[*]Morrigan: "Tell me something I do not know."
[*]Leliana: "But you always dress in such rags. It suits you I suppose. A little tear here, a little rip there to show some skin. I understand."
[*]Morrigan: "You understand I lived in a forest, I hope?"
[*]Leliana: "Maybe we could get you in a nice dress one day. Silk. No, maybe velvet. Velvet is heavier, better to guard against the cold in Ferelden. Dark red velvet, yes. With gold embroidery. It should be cut low in the front of course, we don't want to hide your features."
[*]Morrigan: "Stop looking at my breasts like that. Tis most disturbing!"
[*]Leliana: "You don't think so? And if it's cut low in the front we must put your hair up to show off that lovely neck."
[*]Morrigan: "You are insane. I would sooner let Alistair dress me."
[*]Leliana: "It'll be fun, I promise! We'll get some shoes too! Ah, shoes! We could go shopping together!"

Yup. I do believe that Leliana's rose on the morning after her vision is the rose Alistair picked as well.

I actually had seen that text before. Doesn't make it any more or less creepy, but I suppose it does beg the question, how did Alistair keep it alive for a year? He can hardly keep himself alive for more than a few hits in battle, nonetheless another living thing.
Though I'm sure Leliana would be glad to know that the holy sign that sent her on her quest to save teh wurld was unceremoniously plucked from its life source and likely kept tucked between some health poultices and tricky little socks in Alistair's backpack. Damn Templars, ruining everyone's lives. <_<

I thought that at first too. But now if it was actually Leliana's magical rose from the maker (or whatever), heck it could even be a cure for the taint. Hmmm, you never know. Oh no, now I'm starting to sound as crazy as Leliana. Maybe my male pc should just stick with Zev. With assasins at least you know what you're dealing with.

I don't think it's a magical rose. Just a rose. Which to my way of thinking are usually pretty magical anyway in their own right. No additional anything needed. Just something two lonely and romantic people saw in a place full of despair. Bound to stick out.
Poor Zev. He always arrives too late to the party for me.

Alistair's rose is just exactly the way to get to me. My son knows that if he brings me home a pretty feather or a pretty stone or a special leaf...I'm gonna light up.
I have bowls of rocks around the house and baskets of feathers and leaves. Ribbons are just in the way of the cool stuff.
Husband however is slightly higher tech. Which is why I lit up yesterday when he installed my new video card that makes everything in DAO look prettier. Alistair equivalent is probably shield bash.
