Zevran: Oh and um ..... don't mind the pocket lint and the bit of blood on it. It means so much to me.
Right. I'm a very casual flirter in reality and honest to God, I've had men (erm...and women...) yell at me. I've gotten the "What the hell does it take to get my attention?" talk many times. I'll do the wordplay and the flirting and the joking forever otherwise and not think twice. That doesn't mean I'm...actually involved or even taking it seriously. That's a different thing entirely.
The real answer is that if you don't know, I'm not going to tell you. If you do know, then you're going to be bold and confident enough to do it. That means I know you have opinions and passions and desires and I don't have to coax 'em out of you or prompt you for the rest of our short lives together. If you're embarrassed or timid about love or any of that, you're going to last about five minutes in reality with me. Alistair might have been awkward, but that's different than timid. He was all in.
Zevran and Leliana and definitely Morrigan are not all in. They're all hedging their bets. And since the PC isn't actually allowed a polyamorous option where I was allowed to hedge my bets also, it didn't work.
I get that in the end, Zevran is very loyal and committed, but it's just the wooing aspect that flat out doesn't work on me in reality. That's the point at which I think someone doesn't know their own mind and I walk away because I'll end up steamrolling them into the ground in reality. I need someone to stand up to me and say what's on their mind or they're gonna get buried. It's for their own good.
