Leliana was too coy with the "How dare you make me confess my love first!" thing.  Like it's a competition.

Gave me the impression I'd have to do most of the work and I was there to bolster her ego.

Mhmm weird, she didn't do that in my playthrough. More like shy and embarassed about the initial confession but without the accusation part.

Maybe it depends on the level of relationship with other characters. I didn't pamper or flirt with Alistair much so he never really got above 30-40 appreciation and didn't produce any flowers or stuff. And Zevran got offended early and was just a friend at that point, too.

Yeah, I'm sure it's dependent on your personality and choices.  I'm sure other people can navigate that stuff much better than I can and put a different spin on it.

I just couldn't really navigate Leliana or Zevran in a way that was organic to me as a person.  I have to develop a character that can get it, and then I can think that way.

But the first time through the game I was just "me" and Alistair was the obvious and only real choice as far as being able to navigate through all of that and have it make perfect sense without it being forced.

I dunno, Leliana was very firm about it, both with the love declarations and then practically dragging my elf to the tent even after having her advances dodged and then being politely told being Grey Warden and duty and yadda yadda yadda.

It was truly the case of "You cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic, and then give in".

Leliana was too coy with the "How dare you make me confess my love first!" thing.  Like it's a competition.

I took that line as more sarcastic and teasing then anything else, though the seqence leading to it she was a bit coy. But I thought that fit her well, the emotional side of love is a bit foreign to her which leads to her timidness. Where as when it comes to the physical and intimate side she is much more confident, more agressive with you.

And I think that's one of my major disconnects.  The power of being sexually confident is in being...sexually confident.  I would have been more attracted to that than the "Gosh, is this where my lips go?" batting of eyelashes on Morrigan's and Leliana's part.

So...both Morrigan and Leliana were taught to seduce and kill as a matter of course and pride and heritage...

But what I get is messed up, coy, Catholic school girl?  Can't you guys even make it worth my while by teaching me something I don't know?

Where's all that smooth calculation of character, of being irresistable because you figured out your mark?

You ladies have been watching too much porn and you think I'm the pizza guy, don't you?  I'm not the pizza guy.  Try harder.

Leliana, on the other hand, is a bit... off her rocker?  I mean, she's taking dreams and rosebushes a little too seriously and on top of that, watches the PC sleep at night.  Like a creeper.  She seems like a child to me, as well as being potentially insane.  Not to mention her voice is grating.

Umm, why is watching someone when they sleep creepy? I do that occasionally, watch my husband when he sleeps, because I think he's cute when he sleeps. ;)

Funny part is i was actually trying to avoid getting anything started, generally choosing the oblivious/self-absorbed options. Seeing how it turned out looks i'm not really any better at navigating things. (in my defense, i kept my elf's coercion at level 1. She was pretty bad about picking her Landsmeet points, too)

Even funnier was Alistair in the end deciding to follow "the woman he loved" instead of staying with his precious Wardens, despite barely 40 rating if that. You tell a guy he's kinda handsome once and don't tell him he smells like a dog and it's apparently all it takes. Image IPB

I'm sort of on the fence on this.  I watch my husband sleep and I think he's handsome as hell so I have good reason.

In her case, though...she was fully dressed and staring.  That's...different from a loving sort of...it's just...different.

If I wake up and she's watching me while we're both pillow to pillow in bed, that's kinda endearing.  If she's fully dressed with weapons...really entirely different vibe.

Heh.  Yeah, you have my sympathy.  In my playthrough where I tried desperately NOT to romance him, but I had to get his approval up to harden him and convince him to marry Anora, I had to reset about six times.

I do agree that you basically have to mace him in the eyes if you don't want a romance. And even then, be prepared to reset.  Sometimes he's into that sorta thing.

Eh, I attributed that towards technical limitations or laziness more then anything. It does throw a different vibe no doubt, but what you see I don't think is exactly what was meant.

But she did that after the sex scene, at least in my game. So, she's fully dressed because there is no nudity in DAO, and there's actually no inside of a tent either, even though the sex is suppose to happen in a tent (and the cutscenes still happen in front of everyone, beside the fireplace). So I just imagine her without clothes and after that tender moment in the tent, since for the rating issues the game can't obviously show everything (which is a shame really). And probably for some other reasons the game obviously has no pillows either ;)

She watched you while you slept, once? And that's "creepy"? Meh. I've watched my husband sleep, and he's watched me.It's just an intimate gesture. Perhaps it would be different if I found a stash of my unwashed underwear in her tent, under her pillow. Until then, I think it's cute.

I get that and there's no disagreement from me.

Alistair does in fact watch you when he sleeps, but that's over the shoulder and you're both sorta nekkid and I thought that was endearing.  I imagine someone did a lot of work on that little smile.

It's just a game that sets the paranoia bar pretty low and it doesn't take much to set it off.   Not in me anyway.  Leliana does not make me feel safe.

you know, I found that Alistair jumping the gun and " assuming" we had something was ironically realistic " and abit annoying"

Realistic in the way that many socially inept/stunted guys can potentially get with female friends. You know that " OMG SHE GAVE ME A HUG, SHE MUST LIKE ME!!!" types. Sadly I had a few guy friends like that growing up...you so much as smile at them and somehow it was warped into " something more" largely I think because they just did not know any better when it came to the opposite sex.

So with that lil pike twirler that " jumping the gun" seems natural.... on the other hand Liliana, or Zevran should know better than to assume there is something unless it's mutually established... but alas, one can only do so much programing a games AI so we have to walk that " friend/romance" line pretty close at times.

Yes, that's exactly it. That, and some of the other stuff she says, like how her sudden interest for you seems to come out of left field, like when she starts talking about your hair and suddenly, she's on the romance track.

Wanting to capture my eyelashes and put them in a jar.......creeeeeeeepay. Reminds me of stories of serial killers keeping pieces of their victims as momentos.

I watch my husband when he falls asleep on the couch, but that's because he does and says some seriously adorable and funny things in his sleep. Same thing if I wake before him. But If he woke up, found me fully dressed looming over him with sharp objects, staring and saying rather creepy things, at the least, he might smile, nod, then the first chance he gets call the doctor and talk about maybe getting me on some medication.

Though I can't speak for everyone. I can see why some people might be enmored with Leliana and her clingy obsessiveness. Some might not see it as such, but endearing devotion expressed in a rather unusual, Bohemian way. Different strokes for different folks. When you get past her annoying froo-froo frivality and religous delisions, I actually like Leliana, especially when discussing her femme fatale/vixen past, and hardening her up to actually enjoy life on the wild side.

As far as Alistair goes, though, I haven't run into this romance bug. So far, when I've dumped him, he's stayed dumped, and I havent made him king in a proper playthrough yet, only a few trial runs with a noble human.

Yes, but you don't watch him fully armored and weapon-ed, do you?  Like Recidiva said, it's sweet in normal circumstances, but in this case, it's a well-armed bard who has basically admitted to killing men after sleeping with them staring at you.  Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'd be a bit... nervous, regardless of if I 'loved' her or not.

As others have said before, part of the weirdness of that particular scene is likely the result of technical limitations of not wanting half-nekkid pillow-talk by the campfire where everyone else can see, what with the lack of an extra tent interior area and all. I mean, aren't you wearing your armor and weapons as well during that portion as you're just waking up? Is that supposed to mean you banged her then re-armed yourself for the afterglow moment? I found no reason to be creeped out by or paranoid of Leliana and her behavior, just as long as she remembered our safeword "Schmooples."

I don't watch him fully armed and armored, no. Not anymore. :D

Under normal circumstances, I'm a real person, capable of reason, spontaneity, and dressing up or down as the situation calls for it. Leliana is a character whose actions are all programmed by someone else. It seems more like yet another programming oversight, more likely a shortcut, to have Lel in her armor cooing over the PC, not like a reflection of Leliana's nature. And hey, it's not as if your character is lying there, naked and vulnerable under a satin sheet- you're geared up too. Just as weird.

If this game were perfect, there would be a pillow talk appropriate setting, and after having sex with whomever, you both would still be undressed in a tent, talking contentedly (?) to one another. Instead we see our characters striding, wide-armed and apelike, fully clothed and armed again, towards the bonfire in the middle of camp, like we've just skinned some deer together. To me, this is just as odd as Leiana's "suited up" tender moment.

I guess I'm just used to these bits of unintentional humor in games. That's what I regard them as anyway. *shrug* Maybe a mod will come along and tidy these scenes up. It would be well received, I think.

Leliana intimacy mini-game mod involving a number of dexterity and constitution checks, with the option of "More, more!" or "Schmooples!" and a failed stat check resulting in an injury... hmm...

Such a minigame would also be applicable to Zevran, as well. It always makes me laugh when, after getting zev in the tent and his approval raises, I get the little message for "aquired skill:major dexterity".

Though for some reason, methinks his elfy kinky highness would probably not even bother to remember a safeword.

Once you start with Zevran, you just can't stop. Just hope you've saved enough injury kits for all the wrenched limbs and open wounds that will inevitably come up. No wonder in some instances the sexytime cutscenes depict the PC still wearing armor. That's not a bug, that's foresight!

Well, he does ask if something in your tent needs assassinating. With Zevran, I don't think that line between work and play exists. The two are synonomous. (One of his lines, after you've seduced him the first time, upon inviting him back in, is a playfully exasperated "work, work, work!")

Sexytime with Zevran checklist:

Full body armor: check.
Inujury kits and healing salves: check
Elemetal protection slaves: check
Restraint devices: check
Extraction tool set: check
Recreational dentistry kit: check
Oghren in a clown outfit: check
Schloomples: check
Wynne and her ressurection spells: check

Let the "assassinating" commence.

Falls under category of "restraint" devices, since to my knowledge, there are more common household objects that make excellent restraint tools than I have room to list in one paragraph.

I wouldn't forget them, though. Safety first, and Zevran is a highly sexed menace to anyone with a pulse.

Edit: uh..yeah. What was this thread about? oh, right Alistair buggy love/hate relationship.

Maybe Zevran needs to turn him to the darkside and he'll finally leave your female PC alone.

Hmmm...

I had a similar bug with Alistair. Apparently, there are as many Romance triggers as there are Dialogue topics with him.

For me, I had very carefully built up a solid friendship with him (Female elf rogue, and planned to sacrifice herself to re-join Nelaros), and stayed QUITE far away from Romance, with only one apology (Rose incident). After Landsmeet, he didn't give the Break-up routine, but DID have a rather large Approval hit, but expecting it, I saved Duncan's Shield, and his mother's amulet. I gave him first the shield, then the Amulet using dialogue that sounded supportive, without being romantic or Sarcastic. Then went to Redcliffe, told off Morrigan (who fled), and killed the Archdemon. Only Romances were with Zevran (full, including sex) and Lelianna (Not quite sexual, but would have if offered).

At the Funeral, He stated that he thought we would be together forever. Re-loading a save, and sure enough, his mother's amulet started up the romance. He was at 87 (adore). 1 more gift, and it might have been beddy-time.....
