David Gaider has said that there's just no way two Grey Wardens will have kids.

On Page 19 of this forum:

Indeed. A question about the lore was asked and thus answered. Alistair didn't say (and doesn't know) "it is 100% impossible for two Grey Wardens to have a child". He's only been a Grey Warden for a short while, and all he knows is he's never heard of it happening.

*I*, however, am telling you what the lore is. That may not concern you, but I am indeed saying that Alistair and the PC he's married to will come to find that they cannot have children together. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will eventually come along and say "you know, two Grey Wardens being married in a situation where children are required is not a great idea"... but until that point all Alistair knows is that it will likely be very hard if not impossible.

In the end, I think the real problem is no matter what you do, Ferelden will be without an heir, whether it's now or later no matter who is on the throne.  I think it says Anora never remarries if you make her queen and if your noble and Alistair are ruling well ... you can kind of see where that'll end up.  Alistair and Anora can try, but they have alot working against them.

Since David says it, it must be true, but may I say how totally unfair this is?  Coming from his book - a female gray warden got pregnent by a non gray warden.  In the game a non gray warden can get pregnent by a gray warden.  But two wardens can't have a kid.  The taint puts up some kind of road block some kind of taint birth control.

My character who is a friend of Alistairs talkes him into marrying Anora.  I'm hopeful that she will see his good qualities and they will at least have a friendly life together with or without kids.  :)

Ok, generally men are accused of always blaiming the woman for being unable to produce a baby. I am surprised that the op makes the same accusations lol. Why can't it be Cailan who was barren? He certaintly looks like it.

I was thinking the same thing.  Why is it that she's the one to blame or that he would be having an affair because of it?

Not that I like him much to begin with, but that just sounds...medically unjustified.  How the hell do the know who is the problem?  Maybe it's both?

I'll admit that it's possibly my intolerance toward Anora that makes me say that Posted Image, however later in my post I did say that it was quite possible that it was Cailan's inability to reproduce and not Anora's.  But I agree in general people do tend to assume it's the woman with the problem when that may not be the case, so it's a bit unfair.  But it is Anora we're talking about and don't we just love be bad to Anora Posted Image Posted Image.

Edit: Besides it's fair to say that at least one of them probably had a fertility problem (unless there was another reason we are not aware of), so there's at least a 50% chance that Alistair still would not be able to have an heir with Anora.  I guess that's my beef with it.  It's that he dumps your female pc for not being able to reproduce because of the taint and we're possibly led to believe that Anora might not can have kids but he's fine with marrying her.Posted Image

Just because the two gray wardens couldn't have kids, I would think that Anora and Alistair might. She's not a gray warden, and he's only been one for a short time. If he could have a child with Morrigan (if you go that route) then he might be able to have a 2nd. That's assuming the problem was Cailan and not Anora's. I guess we'll find out in DA2 maybe.

Alistair:  I'm troubled.  Anora will be undergoing IVF and I don't know whether or not I should be giving her the injections or if...that's too intrusive.
Anora:  There is an old Shaman in a village near where I grew up, and we thought we should go speak to her about this predicament.  However, the terrain between here and my village is treacherous and with the darkspawn still threatening...
(Anora and Alistair stare at PC in that helpless way they have...)
Me:  Fine.  I'll pack my sword.

(Anora's personal quest initiated.  Objective:  Setting her flag from /barren to /fruitful)

lol. Posted Image  Well, there is the option (so I've heard) of becoming queen as a human noble and then let someone else knock you up besides Alistair (Zev maybe?). That would be hilarious - an elven assasin's son taking over the throne after the king and queen died from the taint.  Maric would roll over in his grave, unless he has a really wicked sense of humor.

Edit: Ooops, I forgot Maric liked elves, didn't he?

Oh no, they would ask the female pc that Alistair dumped to marry Anora to figure out their fertility problem, wouldn't they?  Add insult to injury. Posted Image

Of COURSE they would.  We can't have anybody having sensitivity for the PC's feelings or solving problems on their own, could we?

That's simply not done.

Anora will probably want me to pee in a cup for her also due to her...herbal indiscretions.  And if I want to save Ferelden, I'll have to do it.

My best romance option is probably someone who romances like Alistair, fights like Sten and thinks like HK-47.

I would hope for the laughing.

But would settle for not being banned permanently from the site.  Please.

That would make me very sad.

Which leads me to wonder.........if Alistair married Anora and the female pc got with Sten, I wonder what a qunari / elf (or dwarf or human) would like, cause after all Sten doesn't have the taint........Posted Image

Edit: You would just need to remember to bring plenty of armor for the um...........qunari joining Posted Image

Why does everyone believe that Anora is barren. Cailan could be shooting blanks. He had side trips with other women, but no bastard heir is produced that we know of.

If Cailan had produce a heir with another women he/she would be able to lay claim to the throne.

Bwahaha. This thread turned into win.

If Anora never gets preggers, regardless of whether Alistair is king or goes on to happily stay with the Gray Wardens and never deal with Anora, then... oh well, wouldn't that be an unusual fantasy story twist - a throne up for grabs! Who ever heard of such a thing in fantasy stories!

As for the medical reasoning as to why a male and female taint-infected Gray Warden couldn't have kids... eh, I'd buy it. Their blood is, in effect, poisoned. Singly, it's manageable. Combine it, probably not so much.

Alistair goes dark side, huh?  Actually, that sounds a little intriguing. Posted Image

No more rescuing kittens from trees for him.

Hmm, what would HK-47 do to those kittens?  Eh, probably don't want to know.  What would HK-47 do to Anora? hee, hee.  Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing that. Posted ImagePosted Image

I'm lucky.  I have a husband prone to insanely romantic gestures, and nobody but nobody makes fun of him for being deeply romantic because he's just...scary.  My kinda guy.  To put that in perspective...I met him online...and he didn't ask my permission, he didn't consult me...he just....left his job and his life, hopped on his motorcycle and was halfway across the country on his way to my house (about 1000 miles) before he called me from a hotel and asked me if I'd let him in if he knocked.  We'd probably known each other for a year or so?  No warning.  He just made up his mind one day.  He has a way of framing things so I have a difficult time saying no.  So when that's the first time I met him, that's...well, that is getting my attention.

My husband will still rescue kittens.  Then he'll track down whatever ignorant mother****er let a kitten go unattended and get stuck in a tree in the first place and tear them a new one and threaten to kill them if he ever sees that kitten anywhere but safe again.

Hopefully HK-47 would open up her brain and work on her circuitry.

And that is my life.  Deeply romantic.  Very alarming.  It suits me.

I do not believe you have to give up romance in order to be a badass.  It does in fact enhance it.
