Well, let's talk specifics:

1) Weapons are simply more effective at causing injury than fists. This difference makes them infeasible as main weapons.
2) To overcome this, you have to create specific mechanics for use of fists. These may include magical punching (mage only) or grappling (e.g. Overwhelm). Claw-type weapons would technically be a possibility, but would be pointless because then you'd just have daggers by another name.
3) Unarmed combat mechanics are also difficult to maintain. Other characters find better gear with time, but your puncher isn't cutting off his hands and grafting on new ones.
4) Unarmed combat doesn't fit particular well into the universe. Even Mass Effect with its space-magic guns has more punching and kicking than Dragon Age. Inserting an unarmed combat style would require justification via an entirely new group yet unknown in the lore. Either that or a really big handwave. //EDIT: As someone pointed out, the Silent Sisters in the novels may use unarmed combat, despite that those in the game do not.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it does seem unlikely.

Inevitably, as I suspected, this is drifting into the unarmed combat all the time which I do not support.

It seemed to me the OP wanted some unarmed combat in certain points of the game, brawls etc that fit into the story where no one is trying to kill anyone, and this I think could be a good thing for the game if used very sparingly and where appropriate.

The Silent Sisters are an all-female group of dwarves who employ exclusively unarmed combat.  They are also extremely badass.  So yes, there is precedent.

Skyrim employed this to decent effect, as I recall.  For quests where you were supposed to subdue without killing, you entered a brawling style of combat.  IMO a bit clunky in implementation, but not a bad idea.

Yup, except for the fact that you would have your ass kicked. An Unarmed tree would solve that.

I'd settle for single sword wielding combat like it was shown on the DOA Duelist Icons...

I relied on unarmed combat quite heavily during the Harrowing.  I didn't have any offensive spells at level 1.

Interesting. In DA:O, the ones you fought in the Proving use weapons. Utha also uses weapons in DA:A. Still, if that is in the lore (I have not read any of the novels), then I concede that you are correct.

Anyone who fights unarmed is either a moron, or someone who is so confident that they outclass their opponent that they can beat them without weapon's, or both. There has never been an example of someone who could fight better unarmed then with a weapon, and there never will be.

By making an unarmed class, the concept either comes across as silly, or you are telling everyone that the unarmed player is better then everyone else who's character uses a weapon, I do not like the idea of that.

You could make a style that utilizes punching dagger's or something similar that would look similar to an unarmed style, but would that make the people asking for this happy?

Sure, you bring your fists and I'll bring my sword. Lets see who wins, okay?

can I bring the fireball, and glyph of paralysis?

his point being it's a fantasy world, where even sword use performs some incredible feats.
Unless you really think you can learn DA skills like; Assault http://wiki/Assault_(Dragon_Age_II), Scythe http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Scythe, Mighty Blow http://dragonage.wik...(Dragon_Age_II), or Tremor http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Tremor.

Even many of the skills in DA:O were over the top...

So in a fantasy world where dwarves elfs demons magic and dragons exist why couldn't a unarmed martial arts skill allow for combat against armored foes?

The premsis of this thread is not about making an unarmed class but having at least 1 talent tree per class that compilments Unarmed Combat and possiblity Weapons of the given class.

Having a Weapon prefer in combat, A good unarmed fighter always cheats.
