I think we should have non-combat clothing, and a few to choose from. The clothing should also match what was in the game (so if it's a formal official gathering in Orlais, then something along the lines of the whatever the m/f traditionally wear). I still think tradition is a big thing in this medieval-type setting. So I don't see the PC wearing totally different types of clothing. We do need a choice, though. For example, I hated Hawke's mansion finery.... every time I go into the mansion I go "god, that's ugly" and want to slap M!Hawke for stealing the local jester's pants. They don't look at all like what everyone else wears (Lothering fashion wasn't like that, either). When the PC has to go into formal/commoner attire, she should be able to choose over-the-top finery, regular noble finery, commoner (if just walking around town) or some non-battle appropriate armor. By the latter, I mean, nothing that weighs 10 tons and has spikes all over it. Even knights and stuff have formal uniform wear. (Haha, thinking of mounties that don their red uniforms). That is especially an option if females don't want to wear dresses. She can always wear her formal uniform. I'd also like it to be somewhat clear that if I don't wear my regular armor, that I won't be disadvantaged (e.g., this is a scene where there is no fighting, or fighting in plainclothes does not change battle tactics). Because *if* I think I need my armor, I will don it. Preventing the PC from choosing their battle armor would be a way to go.
Now I'm sure some people won't be happy with any of the choices, but that's why there should be a uniform (neutral default armor) type thing. Having to wear a uniform/follow dress code would be more amenable than forcing the PC to wear a dress (of which there are so many aesthetic preferences).
As for female armors.... I still they have to be somewhat realistic. Look at military clothing today. Neutral (except for formal garb). Mind you, for pure enjoyment of gaming, I do want my female PC to still appear female (besides a hunk of metal). Same reason why I hate helmets.... I want to identify with my character and not ever seeing her face is a problem. But I do think chainmail bikinis should be left in the modders' domain and not be in the vanilla game. So yeah, armors that are more neutral and more choices for non-combat armor.

Yeah, no. Hawke is supposed to be either, whichever one an individual chooses to play.

See, a lot of that is a matter of personal taste - I loved the blue robes Bethany wore after going to the Circle. Thought they were pretty, and the colour is one of my favourites.
I think, perhaps, that there is an important point in this thread, and it isn't exactly "give us prettier clothes." (Pretty is subjective, to start with!) The truly important point is - don't leave the female protagonist to be an afterthought that you have to rush to have something for, Blizz. That's the thing that stands out to me - as much as I liked the fact that my f!Hawke wasn't stuck in a dress, the reason behind the clothes being the same, and the way they were apoorly fitted to her model, is pretty irritating; namely, they didn't bother dressing the female protagonist until they were just about out of time and had to half-ass it.
Treat the female protagonists as equal in the future, please, Blizz. Put as much time into them as you put into the male version.
The part in bold SO MUCH! The biggest issue is that they need to spend as much time designing for a female protagonist as they do a male protagonist, but they don't. The designs for the female PC are an afterthought, which is why we get that god awful "unisex" wear.

. . . christ, I just noticed that I called Bioware 'Blizz' twice there. This is what happens when I spend so much time raging at Blizzard over Pandaria stuff, everything critical automatically becomes "Blizz." |D;

So if all these clothing fantasies were available as per pay DLC, would you indulge? Anything is possible with time and money.
Maker Yes!! Just because the clothing was Dlc sure didn't stop me from purchasing it with fable 3. A lady wants to look good in all her badassery.
