Sorry [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie] I gotta stop assuming based on avatar, twice ive made that mistake today....which is even more dumb considering im a man with a female avatar.

You are free to assume I am bacon.

What? You're not?

He's lying, he's just a skillet wearing a bacon dress.

In solidarity with the human women wearing pants!

Hmmm.

I understand gender expectations and whatnot are hard to disassociate from a thread asking about women's attire, but I guess I'll agree with Maria's perspective that it seems to be a more complicated process of dressing women in a way that won't bother someone than it would be a man.

I have no problems with a thread asking for particular clothing for women in certain situations because that's what a poster finds fun/interesting/attractive/whatever. I would prefer that the discussion in the thread avoid a more in depth discussion of feminism and what sort of messaging BioWare, or the people making such requests, are sending by doing so. It makes the discussion much more political in nature which would lead to me closing the thread down.

Personally I thought the outfit just looked... uncomfortable and less flattering than it could have been. But it wasn't awful [compared to DAO noble outfits gah]

I was super scared how far south the thread was going as I read, but yay, still not locked!

I modded my game for a new pants-set because she does kinda walk around like she has a stick up her bum....especially weird when she's sashaying and flouncing about Kirkwall covered in bandit blood.

And the mHawke one looks fine, and considering the incredibly annoying "sneak" animations, i'm not sure how well a dress would "work," in terms of clipping.

I'm sure there are dress mods somewhere that prove it works fine, but that's a lot of stuff to do, and I eventually sigh and chalk it up to rushed development. I don't want to call anyone at Bioware lazy, because they aren't lazy. But it looked very lazy - like when everyone in the Viscount's throne room with the Arishok is an identical twin or triplet.

I don't mind because I liked the pants (I mean, ALL of the default mage robes are crud, and the dresses are too), but I guess it bums out others who want a pretty dress.

MODEDIT: Removing some of the more political commentary from a quote.

Do you want a nice festooned dress for your Hawke?

I agree that it would've been nicer if Lady Hawke had been wearing a nice dress, maybe like the one FemShep wears to the party she attends with Kasumi in ME2. That was a nice dress, an even better version of that dress for Lady Hawke would've been awesome.

My simple answer:
Yes. I like, when woman wear elegant clothes.  Especially on social occasions.
Hawke's dress in the first post looks like that of clown in a circus, it only lacks the red nose and white face.

Discussing the outfits and what you do and do not like about them, while respecting other people may have different ideas for what they'd like their characters to wear, and I don't see why this would necessarily have to be closed :)

EDIT: Tidied up and remoevd some posts simply to try to keep things less political.

Malcoms robes from the armour/weapons DLC was basicly noble cloth sort of like the Vicounts. Honestly though my favorite noble cloth in the DA:O universe would be the dwarf noble cloths. I tried to smuggle them out during my dwarf nobles origins but they were taken from me when my arse was thrown in prison. :(

My City Elf Lady wears a "Dwarf Noble" model as her wedding dress, and she looked ten trillion times better than the noble who kidnapped her.

I liked the dwarven ones best. They really set the nobles aparts from the "lessers" (which, was kinda the point)

And I'll agree, I really like the route they are going (especially regarding dressing PC mages) with the DLC packs. I won't buy them (reminds me too much of TSR and what EA pulled with the Sims when I was a youngun) but they shore be perty.

A couple different clothing options for both genders for situations like the OP mentioned would be nice. Personally, I don't really like it when my badass female character gets put in girly clothes for stuff like that. A prime example would be the Kasumi mission in ME2. I actually winced when I saw my Shepard wearing a dress. It just did not suit who she was. That's not to say I'm against dresses and skirts and stuff, but with the female characters I tend to play it rarely fits them.

By Thedas standards the MOA outfit wasn't that bad but on FemHawke it was an unedited copy and paste from the male model. It was so ill fitting around the neck I immediately went in search of a mod (and happily found one). I don't know what houserobe people are talking about my Hawke swans around the estate in a Anora style Ferelden dress.

While I love FemShep's ME2 dress it didn't really fit in with the established fashion of the ME universe. The only other knee length dress I can remember is that hideous thing Allers wore.

I would also have liked a design that was actually made for female Hawke, but skirts would have simply looked silly on the Champion of Kirkwall.

So does sashaying while covered in blood

Our "pencil skirts" sort pretty silly, but maybe a peasant has a long skirt and a plain blouse instead of those shoulderless dresses with those weird detached "cloth collars"

Okay, I tried to keep quiet, but this is urking me way too much.

There are differences between men and woman. Biological ones. We are not the same gender. There is a list of differences between us.

Does that make one gender better than the other? NO.
Does that mean both genders need to act in a certain stereotypical way? NO.
Does that mean that we should all act androgynous? NO.

Don't call my thought process outdated. That's rude. Women can look feminine, wear dresses and make up and still be as productive as men. Clothes have nothing to do with it. I can run in heels and a skirt no problem. My brain works when I put on a dress.

Okay, rant over. And sorry that you're the one I vent out on, Motomotogirl.

1) You're entirely wrong. That's not what gender means.
2) Calling your thinking outdated is not rude.
3) Your thinking *is* outdated.

1) I don't know what gender means? Enlighten me then.

2) It is rude. I'm entitled to my own opinion on what kind of clothes I'd like to wear. If I like to wear skirts and dresses, that's my business. If I want my female characters to dress more in gowns and elegantly not always for battle, that's not outdated. That's me roleplaying a character that likes dresses.

3) How? Because I believe me wearing a skirt doesn't make me less a person? Because I think I should be able to wear a dress without betraying my gender? I said clothing shouldn't be a big 'The man's making you wear a skirt!' or 'You're a woman in pants? Blasphemy!" deal. I wear pants in everyday life. Sweatpants and jeans are my comfort clothes. My starting argument was "I wear only dresses and skirts to party. But to each their own." I got mad because I was called outdated for wanting to dress up in dresses and skirts. You're claiming I'm outdated for that?

You can't win at times can you lol, you had one thread "claiming" to be a ton of excese sexism against women in DA, then another thread wanting this lol

Anyway at OP, Opinion, Opinions everywhere :P *gazes of to the distance and points*

I personally thought the outfit rather suited my Lady Hawke, she wasn't a very.. feline female, plus she needed extra padding to hide her weapons <3

As long as I've got the option to wear pants on my female protagonist, I'm all for dresses being an option.
No more forced girliness please (I'm glaring menacingly at you Kasumi Goto - whatever made you think my butch FemShep would EVER choose to wear THAT? Uggh)

At least DA2 was moddable so my Lady Hawke can wear pants in the house - and I loved the MoTA party outfit- moreso the fact it wasn't forced girliness B)

So,um more clothing choices please :D

I suppose I could get behind having the option of a dress in DA3, provided two things: 1) there was also the option of pants, and 2) the male PC would also have the option to wear a dress. Some of my m!Hawkes would have been delighted to show up to Duke Prosper's in ruffles.

Unfortuately, the closest my mHawke got was his Hugh Hefner smoking jacket. But, when Mother is gone and the girfriend is away, the skirts and dresses came out to play..... :wizard:

Yes, I demand that MalePC have the opportunity to be festooned as well. (1:40)

DEMAND.

Anyone know the backstory to why the male Hawke VA recorded those lines?  I'm curious now.

Oh god, I hated that outfit. Why does my FemHawke (who looks damn good in her mage champions armor) suddenly look like a sack of potatoes? And where the hell did those massive boobs come from?!
However, I'd like to be able to at least choose between pants and a dress. I know my PC is never going to wear anything too girly, so I'd just like some sexy medieval suit dress thingy.
Something like this, just with pants and converted to fit the DA world:

I disagree...

I feel it's grating either way.

I picked out a female character in order to play the game in a feminine way. I assumed that'd be the whole point in choosing a female. If they're going to take a woman and dress her up like a man and every person she meets treats her like a man/talks to her like a man - then what's the point in picking a woman? Might as well just play a man.

Clearly you are not familiar with the fabulous Meredanders.

What a catch! Throw him/her back in!

Could this... problem not be really easily resolved with Bioware doing what they did in ME3? Just give us a few casual attires to choose from!
So if someone wants a more fancy dress, she can get that!
If someone wants to look like a man and tell herself ''yeah womens rights!'' she can do just that O_O

Should not be too hard to implement...no?

Agreed. It made sense for male hawke to wear an outfit like that... But for a fem hawke.... well it just seemed a bit oafish.

Not really, they were there to rob the place so that is the best outfit fem hawke could wear for that purpose while still seeming to be in the party.

In ME3 people just complain because FemShep gets an ugly (apparently) dress in place of a leather jacket

I'd like if the female pc got an outfit designed for her instead of having the same thing as the male, that or have their be different versions ala the the Hawke 'at home' outfit. But I don't think that clothing necessarily has to be a skirt/dress, I don't have a problem if it IS a dress, but a nice shirt and trouser designed for the female PC would be just fine too.

In the particular case of the party in Mark of the Assassin, I think it's actually best that Lady Hawke was wearing pants, one of the options in the dlc is to stealth around the mansion knocking people out from behind in said outfit and that would be much more awkard in one of those long noble dresses. I mean, if you knew you were going to try and steal something wouldn't you wear something more practical? But it would of been nice if Lady Hawke had her own clothing.
