I always pick up AW at level 7 and BM at level 14.
It is important that you always activate your sustainables last. So you start every battle by using as many spells as possible and then you activate sustainables like Combat Magic, Shimmering Shield etc.
With Blood Magic you can also use your health pool to cast spells and then switch to your sustainables (which means you can cast more spells).

Go AW first. The ability to wear armor improves your survivability. BM requires a deep HP pool which you don't have at level 7.

if yo make leliana a ranger or spec morrigan into creating skeletons it really doesn't matter. bear in the ranger tree is simply ungodly as it can have up to 650 hp. getting the bloodring in orzamar is very usefull to negate the heavy armor fatigue penalties

None
Just focus on your primals if your going to focus on damaging the opponent. Since alistar will join you he will be your tank so you wont have to be an arcane warrior. When your maxed out your primal spells(that means all of them) focus on mind blast, force field, etc... and max that out, then have heal since every mage must have it in case of emergency.
When you get strong, chose your AW
