If you are getting the "error code 5: invalid access" problem when trying to start the daupdater service. try this.
This is for vista
go to the run bar and type in services, right click and open as admin.
then find the dragon age service once more right click and hit properties
for logon click "this account" then click the browse option and type in your name click cheack name make sure its your login name then press ok.
under your login name enter your password and confirm it press ok and it should give you a pop up saying that you have log on rights or something like that.
then right click and start the proccess
worked for me!
This worked. Thanks to everyone who helped. This is a great thread.

Having some trouble keeping up and I'm back home so I want to try playing the game a bit! Only 3 hours in hehe.
A lot of the questions that come can be fixed or at least troubleshooted from the first post. I even repeatdly told the same thing to different people to point them on which steps / section to use. Since I'm taking a small break, i STRONGLY urge to read the normal pages of this discussion. Chances are you will spot someone saying the same thing : "I tried X and Y" and I then point them to some instructions from the first post. Sometimes it fixes their issue, sometimes they come back and I made them take additional steps that could also help you.
Sorry people! I'll be back later or tomorrow.
Omg play the game HemisH! You deserve it!

At first i couldnt get the extra content to show up on the in-game DLC screen, but after i launched the game via "Launch Dragon Age: Origin's Launcher" instead of "Launch game..." , it seemed to do the trick

I have no idea what to do in this situation. Ugh! Why have this these hoops to jump through, anyway? I should be able to just download the content and install it manually. Funny thing is I just recently started playing PC games out of curiosity and they have been nothing but technical headaches so far. How do people stand it?

I've got nothing in any of the three DLC tabs. The DA Updater Service is installed, but won't start. It tells me "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
I was trying to do the uninstall/reinstall method listed in the first post for XP and ran into a problem. I don''t have a Microsoft.NET folder in my windows folder for some reason. Searching for installutil came across it in windows\\servicepackfiles\\i386 but it won't run from there. I have no idea why.
Also, my installation is on a different hardrive than my my documents folder, but I don't know how to do anything about that.
Again, if anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated.

In DLC menu, in game, it shows only Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep, in the thirst tab.
When i click Redeem code, it sends me to to my account at bioware site. I'm trying to enter Dragon Age Origins Cd key, and Preorder key, but it constantly saying "Code not recognized, please check that you have entered it correctly.
Unable to redeem code." or just "Unable to redeem code".
I'm running w2k3 server x64. All system path's is standard.
I just wonder if this all could be because of my steam folder is located in S:\\GAMES\\STEAM\\, and so the game is.
Also, http://social.biowar...ntitlements.php shows nothing registered.
In the Games tab in my profile, Dragon Age Origins - PC is showing up, but that is all.

However, I'm not getting a successful download no matter whether I delete the Manifest.xml, clear the cache or hit retry.
I'm running Win7 HP.
Very frustrating.

when I try to login ingame to pick up my DLC (codes have been redeemed), the prompt states that I am not connected to the Internet!?
I tried turning off my firewall but still getting the same message.
The internet connection where I live has a static IP, however it is shared via a DLINK hub with DHCP which I dont have access to muck around with.
Is there a way to fix this issue, preferbly without port fowarding is possible?

So if anyone else is having a similar problem and is running G-Data 2010 that's the solution.

Worked for me as well. Thanks a lot to OP and anyone who helped.
However, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out which items go with what DLC. also, the Memory band has no stats in my game, it's just a ring. And i don't seem to have the item that should come with the Deluxe edition.

I looked through the first handful of pages to see if anyone else was having the same issue as I am, and tried to use some of the steps in the first post but I seem to have hit a roadblock so any help would be appreciated.

This is the same problem that I'm having, but I've actually uninstalled/installed the service as well, following the various directions people have given. Still no dice. The problem is clearly the service, as it won't start, even manually, but I haven't seen a solution that fixes it yet. Yes I'm running as administrator, and I'm using Vista 64bit. Sent support an email somwhere over a day ago and have yet to hear anything back.
