if you are playing on steam and you change the location of your steam install the update service wont work.
if you go in to regedit and change the updater service loaction you can fix it
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>DAUpdaterSvc
in that entry change the ImagePath key to wherever the new folder is.

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Service Pack 1
Intel Core 2 CPU E6700 @ 2.66GHZ
4GB Ram
My installutil.exe crashes before I am able to uninstall the DaUpdaterSvc.Service.exe, so I can't uninstall than reinstall it without cleaning up the .net framework install.
So I did a totally clean unistall of the .net framework and a re-install of .net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 after that and gave it another shot.
Nothing. Still crashes.
I don't know what the problem is, or why DAUpdater suddenly doesn't work, but its really damn annoying that's for sure.

I had completely given up on getting this to work until I saw this post - and thank god I did (it was completely random that I found it). I had changed the install directory for steam (after I installed dragon age) cause I had just got a new hard drive and recieved this exact error. Going into regedit and changing the location fixed everything.
Reading this has saved me no small amount of rage, pain and humiliation. Thanks so much for your efforts.

I redeemed my codes for The Stone Prisoner and Blood Dragon Armor. I purchased Warden's Keep. But I can't install any of them. In the %100 of installing progress there is an "install failed" warning and there's no internet connection problem.
I don't know what to do... Please help!

Did you use steam to download the game? If so try this link and look at steps 8 and 9:
forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php
Edit: Er, my bad - that link is only for the deluxe version of the game.

Could that message be related to the fact that my DLC won't even show in the DLC part of the main menu and how can I fix it?

You can try it out and see if it helps solve your problems in the meanwhile.
If you do, please let me know if it helps.

Also, you'll want to confirm your service starts when you boot the game. A few users have reported they need to manually start their service for some reason.
1. In Windows, Press start
2. Run "services.msc"
3. Find and start "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater"
4. Restart game

None of the things in this faq worked and DLC wouldn't install after 100% download, but then i figured out a new solution.
this is on windows7:
1. login as admin
2. go to the user account manager and set the slider all the way down to never notify (least secure)
3. reboot
4. run DA and start the download in the normal way
5. quit DA when it's done and set the security slider on normal again, then reboot (wouldn't want to compromise your PC)
6. always play the game from admin account
Run the game as any user other than admin and the DLC won't show up.
This DLC program is very crude.
But I can play now. Hope this may help someone.
Thax man this fixed my problem i love you in a internetly way<3

It didn't work. Still installations fail at %100.

Running this utility changed nothing for me. Stil no DLC.

I have the service set to start automatically. What I see is that the service will start automatically after a reboot. However, after I play one session, and exit the game, the service stops on its own. Subsequent launches of the game fail to start the service back up, so I start the service manually thereafter, at least until the next reboot.
I'm going to install the DRM service beta to see if this resolves what I'm seeing. I'll edit this post this weekend at some point with results.
[Update: Unfortunately the beta DRM service installer doesn't address the issue where the service stops and doesn't automatically restart the 2nd and subsequent times I run the game. It only automatically starts up after a reboot.]

I think I play through once without any of the DLCs, can someone tell me which ones are CRUZIAL, if any? Do they actually IMPROVE the game or just add fancy trinkets for kiddies?

1. Go to google and search for instructions on how to enable the hidden adminstrator account in Vista. It will appear alongside your existing account when you start up your computer
2. Log in to the administrator account and then right-click on the daorigins.exe file and select "Run as administrator"
3. Follow the usual process; i.e. log in to the Dragon Age server and download content. It worked perfectly!
4. Log out of the adminstrator account and log back into your regular account. DO NOT USE THIS ACCOUNT FOR REGULAR ACTIVITY OR WHEN PLAYING THE GAME. You should either disable it or put a password on it.

I found that the problem was due to not running the daorigins.exe file in administrator mode. In Windows Vista, the true administrator mode is disabled so right-clicking on the file and selecting "Run as admininstrator" does not do much.

Now if only I read that or knew about it a few days ago... It's also possible to just uninstall and reinstall the service, and that automatically updates the location.

Sorry, which step? This one?:
....3.1.2. Uninstalling Dragon Age and reinstalling it borked the service needed to download the DLC

I can connect to the server, but the DAUpdaterSVC.Service program still crashes regardless and it still thinks I don't own Wardens Keep.
On top of that, after having tried to rename the Manifest.xml to Manifest1.xml to see if that might fix my problem (it didn't), after renaming it back to Manifest.xml, it believes I now don't own The Stone Prisoner either.
Oh well. I'll just have to keep on looking for an answer.

So, if I purchased Wardens Keep and put in the code for Shale the first time around, later had to uninstall and again install the game, how so I get them back?

In an ideal world, you just reinstall the Dragon Age game and log-in while in the game with the same account you used before. This will find out that you have access to XYZ DLCs and if they're not present, should download them.
If they're not downloading/installing/etc... I suggest you take note of what the issue it's giving you is, then check the 0.1.X sections for the one closest to your issue.
