yes, only necessary one is the "Format", when you set this to English(US) manual installation works fine. Ingame install still dont work though.

For some reason after a reinstall, the auto updater downloaded (but failed to install)DAO_PRC_OCP_2_1.0.dazip and DAO_PRC_ONRX_1_1.0.dazip

Neither of these are listed in 4.1 of the FAQ. Both are at least 10 megabytes in size.

Okay, is there any way to not have the Updater Service download DLC? It is needed to keep my manually installed content activated, I just don't want it downloading these odd named files that fail to install.

edit: Damn, just figured it out.

1) Install the service (you can use the beta version from the previous page to easily get it back)

2) Change the services Startup Type to "Disabled".

3) play with your content authorized and no downloading of uneeded files!

Nope, it doesn't authorize the content unless it is allowed to run the service. It attempts to download these 2 files from an unknown server.

I do not know what the O means in the file name, but they are located on one of EA's servers, not sure which.

Can someone provide a link to these files for me to manually install them?

yes i also suggest adding that to the 1st page since it helped dozens of people.

to change regional settings go to start->control panel
from there switch to classic view/icons view. double click "Region and Language"(this is what it called in win7,may differ in vista and xp,)

from there go through all tabs and change everything to US setting, including your keyboard, format and region settings.

i'll go and try to figure which ones are necessary, but for now set all to US

AHHHH!

Okay, you're talking about the Windows language settings LOL!!!

I thought you all were talking about something in-game, or a file somewhere in the game or related system folders that you modded.

Is this an issue that non-American installs are having then?  (ie, how else would your computer settings not already be in English?)

i guess so, even if you are using an American windows install, check it anyway, just in case. The problem we had was that DLCs download fine, extract fine, but WONT install. As i said earlier, it might be a XML parser issue caused by the number formats.
I hope this gets fixed, at least doesnt happen in ME2

I posted before but did not receive an answer.

I have been through the ringer trying to get downloadable content.  I have followed all instruction here to no avail.  The updater service will not start, any way that I do it.  The service is there, just won't start manually or automatically.  When I try to manually start it I keep getting the error "error #2 cannot find the specified file".  Ofcourse, I redemmed my Stone Prisoner code hoping to get him as an NCP.

Support finally answered me and on their 3rd reply they finally told me to find and delete "manifest.xml"  and the DAUpdate folder and clear the download catch.  Neither manifest or the DAUpdate folder exist on my harddrive.  They simply are not there.  I have fully uninstalled and reinstalled the game with the same results.  I recently patched the game with the latest patch hoping that would fix it, but, no help again.

The game runs great, I just can't get and DLC.  All three tabs, like many people, are just blank.

I am running the game on Vista 64 and I have a partition on my harddrive.  Drive C and Drive Z.  Dragon Age is on Drive Z.

Please Hellp if you can

Hi LogikFive,

Have you tried installing Dragon Age on your C drive, just to see if that workarounds the problem? I don't know if they do a lot of testing with drive letters like Z.  We definately know there are issues if the My Documents directory is on a drive other then C:

You might also want to try this beta fix for the DA updater posted by Jason http://social.biowar...st/81613/542935

Without the service running, there's no way to get DLC up and going. You could manually download and install the DLC, but without the service it can't be authorized.

What are the exact issues that the windows language switch fixed? I mentioned it a few times in the thread and I thought I had it in the first post. My apologies.

I would like to NOT put this 'fix' on every single of my issues listed up there. It looks like it was always related to the installation of the DLC?

My knowledge about computers goes about as far as finding the on / off button and this is a nightmare for me. Just spend 14 euro on points, only to find that the dlc still doesn't show up ingame. I live in Holland and last time I checked, that was in EU so that can't be it.

Is it a fools hope to wait till the developers acually fix it, or did I trow away 14 euro?

Edit: I bought it via Steam. Used both registration codes. Spend a few hours trying to figuire it out with the guide.
I have a friend who also has the game and he said when he logged in that he 'could' see the DLC. So why can't I?

In Short

The exact issue that fixes is in non us/eu region settings xml parser has a bug, so it wont let you install the entitled DLCs you have. When u try to install the dlcs (from the ingame dlc menu or outside method) it downloads the stuff to %100 but it will say "Install failed" after a second.

Even your suggestions posted here will NOT solve this problem. BUT when changing the regional settings in your control panel to US, it will correctly install the dlc. its a quick workaround for the RestOftheWorld.

If u need screenshots for what im talking about (before/after) i already pm'd you a link which has the all information in it (steam + non steam) please take a look.

there is also a link in this forum a few pages before for another round up (Dlc's fixed (Epic) was in the title) which mentions that guy's w.a. as Zamav's greater scroll of dlc manifestation and i lold alot ..  Image IPB

We have a preview application that contains a number of the DA Updater fixes for the upcoming PC Patch.
You can try it out and see if it helps solve your problems in the meanwhile.
If you do, please let me know if it helps.
http://supportfiles....nostic_beta.exe

Also, you'll want to confirm your service starts when you boot the game. A few users have reported they need to manually start their service for some reason.
1. In Windows, Press start
2. Run "services.msc"
3. Find and start "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater"
4. Restart game

I will try this later on today, but I am wondering:
why stick to the DLC system service method? Wouldn't an in-game DLC manager be far easier to develop and maintain, seeing as most of the DLC problems spawn from unsynchronized starting to not having enough rights to have the two apps communicate with each other?

I've bought the collector Edition and tried to download the additional content by using the codes of the collectors edition.

I see two contents (Shale and the warden keep), but there is my problem:

when I click on the button to redeem the code, nothing happens. Multiple clicking or waiting does not help. The button to purchase points does not function either. And I can't access my online-profile ingame, because the button for it does not function, too.

I've already checked my problem online, but I didn't found anything to solve this mess (including your awesome FAQ).

I'm logged in when I try to dowload the content (creating and using another profile isn't solving this).

I've applied patch 1.02a.

The update-service is running (says service.msc).

I've registered my game.

I've deleted the download-cache.

Nothing works.

Any ideas?

Ps.: If nothing can help, I will sacrifice a goat to calm down the machine-ghost of my PC and it's software. I hope it does not come to this, because it's not very funny to clean blood and smell out of carpet^^

Thanks for your fantastic FAQ! In fact I got stuck to the 100% downloaded redeemed issue but restarting (not stop and start, just restart) DAO Updater service will show an error into the game interface but also a Retry button. By pressing it the content (Stone Prisoner) was successfully installed. Maybe it's a wise idea for Bioware to create an ad hoc section with various FAQ questions.

Thanks again!!

I'm not sure what to do about the problem I'm facing now.

I was recently away from the Internet for 3 weeks, and was playing Dragon Age without being connected to the server of course. Everything was fine there as I played, but when I came back home and reconnected in order to upload my progress it now says most of the DLC (including the Warden's Keep and Stone Prisoner) are not authorized any more. So I'm stuck with having to play the game offline now, since connecting somehow lists my DLC as invalid, even though it isn't.

I looked over the FAQ, but wasn't sure which solution was the best for this case, as I didn't notice any case exactly like it (perhaps I missed it though).

Anybody have a solution?

Terror_K, the likely issue is with the Dragon Age Origins Content Updater Service. There is a timing issue where the game tries to start the service when you start the game, but it doesn't get started by the time the game tries to verify whether you own the rights to the downloadable content. Try manually starting it before you start the game:

1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START

There is also a beta fix which seems to resolve some issues with the updater service here

Okay, now this has led to further issues.

After doing what you said, I simply got a message that said: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

After searching the forum for a solution to that, I came back to the first page here which suggested that I use the cmd command to uninstall and re-install the service, which it did, but still it just gives me the same error (or in dos prompt says "the service is not responding to the control function"

What now?

Try setting it to run as adminstrator (vista or Win 7). Right click on DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe, click properties, select compatibility, then check "Always run as adminstrator." Might need to do this to the game executable too. DAOrigins.exe.

Also did you try the beta fix? http://social.biowar...81613/59#542935

The only other thing I can think of is that if the installation is not on the C: drive, you could try copying the bin_ship directory a directory on the C drive and installing DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe from there.
