I have tried everything suggested here but my DA Updater Service *always* fails with a 1053 timeout error. I own the retail DVD. My system is Windows XP SP3 32-bit, clean install. I really don't know what to do next to get it running. Any more thoughts?

I always have this problem too, and I have tried EVERYTHING in the faq.

Moyira, Check that Windows is looking for the service in the right location.

1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER

2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.

3.) Right click it and select Properties.

4.) Look for Path to Executable, and make sure that it is the correct path for your location to DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe.

If the path is incorrect you can fix that by going into the registry.

1) Run Regedit.exe

2) Search for all references to DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe

3) When you find the ones that are under DAUpdaterSvc, update the ImagePath key to point to the correct location for DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe.

I double checked that. For some reason, I don't have access to the DAUpdater. At all, not even as an admin. *sigh*

Have you tried the beta fix for the Updater? Its sort of buried in this thread and hard to find.

I just tried that beta fix again. The Updater is listed in services, but I cannot start it. I cannot even click on properties, because access is denied. :(

Hello, everyone.

New here and having a problem with DLC. My problem is as follows: How can I install DLC to a different folder? As for some reason DAupdater extracts the files to my C:drive, which does not have enough space for anything else than the Windows. To be more precise, I need to get the DLC to the same folder as the original game (Which would be in the E:drive).

Any help is appreciated.

The game install those DLC and save game in your My Documents folder. Which is located on the Windows (System) drive by default.

Since you're short on space on the C: drive I suggest you configure windows to use a different location for it's My Documents folder  :

http://support.micro...;310147&x=8&y=9

That's for Windows XP.

Please note that lots of people had issues with Dragon Age when that folder was in a different place than the default location. I suggest you let it install all the DLC in the default location on your C: drive and once everything is peachy and working, perform the steps to change the location.

It's important that you select the options to move the content that is already in that folder. You can't just create a folder on E: and copy-paste the content of your default location.

The My Documents folder host many things, not juste Bioware's user files for their games.

Also, if you don't have space for a few DLC on your C: drive, it means your System drive is full which is bad for Windows. Not enough space for Windows' pagefile can decrease performances among other things.

This is weird. Even if you were logged as an user you should have the option to run things as administrators... Or be asked for the admin password when trying certain things in Windows.

Is it possible your computer was set with heavy security by someone as to prevent future issues that crop on computers that people use with full administrative rights?

What happens when you right click the service and try to click "properties" ?

Yeah, Ill try that, I am using Vista 64bit (Oh how I wish I didnt Image IPB). Yeah, C is always filling with program and gamefiles that I just have to delete. Thanks for the suggestion, I come to tell what happened when I check that out,

Edit: It works out, at least for now. Thanks.

The only person that uses this comp is me.  Yesterday morning I could at least attempt to manually start hte service, and I could look at the properties.  Then for some reason, I can't.  I get Error 5: Access Denied.  No option to run as an administrator.

*sigh*  I'm seriously thinking of reformatting soon anyways.  Once I get Windows 7 anyways.

So I did a restore to last month, deleted all traces of the game, then redownloaded and reinstalled. I patched to 1.02, THEN did the DAUpdaterDiagnostic thing... and somehow it all works. I have no idea why... but it does. Woot

My problem is the Download starts, but never finishes and then is aborted.

I tried downloading shale and the dragon armor, the dragon armor download stops at 25%, shale at 1%.

Then nothing happens for 20-30 minutes, then the download is aborted,

Any ideas how to fix this? I tried 6 or 7 times yesterday, always the same problem :(

The quote refers to the official support links from the first listed thread in the PC Tech Support forum.

http://social.biowar.../58/index/87251

So basically going straight to the source of the Official Support, which is EA.

sorry for posting, but i can´t find a "serch" function in this forum. i had all those weird problems with dlc and updater as well, but thanx to this topic was able to force DAUpdaterSvc by "net start" to start. for some reason all properties in services are inactive, and manual start doesn´t work, except net start in CMD. i have to do it before each and every time i play the game. but it works, dlc are shown, downloaded, installed and authorized.

but i still have one problem. i earned 75 points by 5 completed achievments. at least thats what my profile says in-game, and the achievments are shown on my social.bioware profile as well. but in the available downloads tab these points don´t show up, no matter how often i relog or update. by the way, i purchased the game on steam and reinstalled it several times till i got the updater to work at all. maybe it scrambled things a bit. but, except the in-game earned points everything seems to work fine. any ideas, or maybe a hint if this problem is discussed in an other topic?

You may find the beta fix for the content updater helpful for your problems with the updater service.

The Bioware Points you need to buy DLC can only be purchased with real money, achievement points are unreleated and are just a way of tracking achievements gained.. You can buy points by going to My Profile->Add Bioware Points.

thank you very much. i couldn´t figure it out yet, whether the earned points are useful for lowering dlc purchase costs or not. that was part of the information i was looking for, thx. then there´s no REAL reason to be accurate about updating these points.

i´ll check your provided beta fix, maybe it will make playing the game more comfortable (without executing "net start" all the time).

thank you very much.

....0.1.9. Some of your DLC are showing in the Available Content tab while you are entitled to it as seen on http://social.biowar...ntitlements.php

This is NOT for your if the DLC is ALSO NOT showing on [urlhttp://social.bioware.com/user_entitlements.php[/url]

Otherwise here is what PadForce had to say for people who redeemed a (or more) DLC, sees it in their entitlements page and when logged in with the same account in game, still sees the DLC as one they need to pay for.

PadForce wrote...

If you are having trouble with content you are entitled to still being listed as requiring purchase follow the link in the troubleshooting guide to technical support, select the chat option, wait to be connected and then they credit the item to your account.

I had this problem and am now downloading the relevant adventure.

I don't particularly understand this at all. There's no 'chat' option I can see in the official EA Support for DA, whether logged in or not. The 'E-mail Us' link takes me to a form page that I have to fill in, which doesn't give me an option to send them an e-mail after I fill it in.

Is there any way to get the DLC service to refresh with the information that you own the DLC (RtO appears on my entitlements page, but still reckons I need to buy it in-game, clicking on 'buy' tells me I've already bought it and does nothing else)? Because this is quite frustrating.

Direct link to live chat is http://support.ea.com/chat.

The DLC refresh is the circular arrow on the Available Content screen. If that doesn't work and you are having problems with DLC listed on the entitlements page, but the game is still offering them to you for purchase, make sure the Content Updater service is running. Try manually starting it before you run Dragon Age to see if that helps:

1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START

If it doesn't start or is missing see section 3 of the first post of this thread for tips to get it working.

Hi Guys, I can't seem to find the search function on this forum and I couldn't find an answer to the following question. I downloaded both Wardens keep and the stone prisoner manually and them installed them using the DA updater. It says they are enabled in the download content menu. I'm getting the soldiers peak quest (rest at party camp to meet merchant,) in my journal. I'm also getting shales crystals as drops. There was also a cut scene which I havn't scene before - the meteor falling scene. Now Levi is nowhere to be scene at the camp. He's just not there. And there is nothing, nada, not a sign of the stone prisoner download even though it says it's enabled. I've tried updating, logging on, starting a new game. Nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check out Kepha's thread as mentioned in the section 0.1.3. : Dragon Age DLC In-Game Errors FAQ (DLC items disappeared. Sulcher’s Pass, Levi,...

That's for people with the DLC installed that can't get them to work inside the game.
