Hi Guys, Sorry if this have been asked but I've trawled through but some not all 70 pages for an answer.

I just bought Dragon age off steam which it automatically downloaded, installed and updated.  I redeemed my codes and went to the DLC ingame, all the content was downloaded but it refuses to install saying it needs game version 1 (I have ver 1.02) to install.  Is there any work around for this?

The version number is likely a red herring. Its probably something else that is preventing you from installing.

Some things to try (these are all in the FAQ, but spread out a bit.):

1) Clear the Download Cache. You can do this by pening up the Configuration Utility and going to Repair.
2) Delete the addins.xml and manifest.xml files from the My Documents\\\\\\\\Bioware\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\Settings folder
3) If your My Documents folder is on some other drive than C: move it back to the default location.
4) Set your Windows Region and Language Settings to US and English.

For installation problems its usually useful to try manually installing as described in section 4 of the FAQ, then you can see what sort of error message the DAUpdater is failing on. (Thus making it easier to figure out what's wrong.)

I cleared the cache and deleted the addin.xml and it installed without any problems.  Thanks for all your help!

Sigh. More DLC woe. I successfully installed The Stone Prisoner week ago. It showed up as a quest in my map. However today, I cannot resume a saved game because an error pops up saying I am not authorised to use The Stone Prisoner. I am logged in and have not changed any login details. I'm about to give up with this c**p.

I'm truly sick of these ridiculous DLC issues that plague Dragon Age. I now cannot play the game from my last save point because Bioware have made such a mess of the DLC code.

Way to lose customer respect Bioware.

Its probably just a problem with the Dragon Age Content Updater Service.  Try manually starting it before you start the game:

1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START

If you have ongoing problems with it starting automatically (which it is supposed to do when you start the game), you might want to try the beta fix

I recently bought the deluxe version of the game on Steam, which includes most of the available DLCs (Return to Ostagar is the only exception I think). Initially no DLCs showed up in-game at all, neither as available or anything else. Eventually I found out I had to manually start the Content Update service - after that my DLCs showed up and started downloading/installing, and after installation worked fine in-game.

But next time I started up the game, the DLCs were suddenly no longer authorized. Again I could manually start the Content Update service, and hey presto things were perfect again.

But do I really have to do this manually EVERY time I want to play Dragon Age? That seems beyond ridiculous, really. Can't the service just, you know, launch automatically when I start the game?

That's what its supposed to do, but there's a timing issue where the service doesn't get started by the time the game is finished launching and tries to go out and verify content.  There is a beta fix which makes things better, but I've found it seems to also be dependent on server load.  Sometimes when the servers are slow it still takes more time to get the service started than it takes to launch the game.

Alright, I guess I'll try that fix - hope it's compatible with the Steam version.

I have problem 3.2.3, and when i try to run installutil.exe in the command prompt it says "installutil.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Please help. I am completely stuck.

*Edit* I have gotten a step further, but now when i try to create the service it tells me "System.IO.Filenotfoundexception:Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\\Program' or one of its dependecies. The system cannot find the file specified..

I have no idea what this means, or if my path line is just wrong.

Please help.

Make sure you have the quotes around the path, just like it is in Section 3.2.3, otherwise it gets confused by the spaces in the path, such as the one between Program and Files.

Hi, I had a problem with DLC after uninstalling a version purchased through steam and reinstalling a version from dvd. The Dragon Age Origins Content Updater was still pathed to the old steam file, which no longer existed. Rather than uninstall and reinstall the Content Loader service, I copied the whole folder from its new location to the old location. Worked perfectly after that.

I put in the quotes in and it still doesn't recognize it, does this mean that my path line is wrong? even if i copy pasted? Here are the things i am putting in the path
C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\daupdatersvc.service

Am i writing it wrong?

The beta fix doesn't work; when I run the installer I get an error message that .NET framework 2.0 SP2 is not supported by Windows Vista and prompts me to abort the installation.

Is it still giving you the same error message?

Easier to tell what's going on it you cut and paste the exact command line you're entering and the error message here.

Sorry.  Hopefully the next patch will come out soon, as those fixes were supposed to be in it.

Well...

Here is one of the error messages.
"System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'C:\\\\\\\\Program Files\\\\\\\\Steam\\\\\\\\steamapps\\\\\\\\common\\\\\\\\dragon age origins\\\\\\\\bin_ship\\\\\\\\daupdatersvc.service' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.."

Here is the other.
Exception occurred while initializing the installation:System.ArgumentException: Invalid directory on URL..

This is what i am entering in:
C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.50727>installutil "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\dragon age origins\\\\bin_ship\\\\DAUpdaterSvc.service" net start DAUpdaterSvc

It appears you leaving off the .exe when you're typing it in.  Because it needs to be C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe (If that is the correct path.)

I have tried using .exe, and just tried again, still getting the same error. But now it says I have a different path wrong..

This is the error message i just got
Exception occurred while initializing the installation:System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\\\\Windows\\\\Microsoft.NET\\\\Framework\\\\v2.0.50727\\\\net' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified..

Not exactly sure what "'file:///C:\\\\Windows\\\\Microsoft.NET\\\\Framework\\\\v2.0.50727\\\\net'" means, because i don't have a \\\\net at the end of that, it just ends at \\\\v2.0.50727.

I'm experimenting problems with the DLC as everybody did.... i read a lot about who had which problem and the answers to solve it, but nothing seemed to be eithher my problem or my solution. From what i read, maybe all of this could have been caused by Windows 7. IF not, my problem is that on my online profile, i have stone prisoner, warden's keep and blood dragon armor into my registered promotions... Everything looks fine until i enter the game... i'm logging in and then i go to the downloadable content page.... COMPLETE BLANK, as well in available, progress or installed content.... the problem is that my Bioware points are up to date..... So the link between the game and the profile is somewhat working, but nothing about the download though... I already tried reinstalling the game... Now i wonder if emptying the download cache or manually activate the content update could change something... or should i wait for the next patch for windows 7...

Markwake, you should definately try manually starting the Content Update service and make sure its running correctly. About all Windows 7 seems to be doing is making it hard for the service to start automatically, but there's nothing about Windows 7 that inherently breaks the system.

Hi, once again. I have gotten the service up and running, and now my DLC downloads (Blood Dragon Armor, The Edge, and The Stone Prisoner) are all stuck at 100%, i have tried every one of 0.1.8. but whenever i try to install the DLC manually using the DAUpdater application, it ends up crashing every single time, no matter what DLC i'm trying to install.

Can anyone help?

There are a few other things to try that are spread out in the rest of the FAQ.

1)  Clear your download cache.
2)  Delete the addins.xml and manifest.xml files in My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Settings
3)  If your My Documents directory is located on some other drive than C:, try moving it back to the default location to install the DLC.  (Right-click on USERNAME\\My Documents and select Properties, then go to the Location tab to check and then change the physical location of of the directory.)
4)  Change your Windows Region and Language settings to English(United States) temporarily to try to get the DLC to install.

I have tried 1, 2, and My Documents is located on C: Drive, and my Windows Region and Language setting is already set to USA English.

Have you tried installing the Updater beta fix?  If DAUpdater is still crashing after that you'll likely need to reinstall.

Hmm, It isn't crashing now, but it is showing that there was an error with the installation and stops the installation.
