I'm also using the Steam version of DA:O and here are the steps I always follow after launching game and before clicking New, Resume or Load to avoid any authorization issues:

1. from main menu, check that you are logged in* then select Downloadable Content
2. if you see your DLCs on a green background and Points Balance updating, skip to step 7
3. wait for Point Balance to be updated
4. close panel
5. click again Downloadable Content
6. this time you should see your installed DLC on a green background and the Points Balance in update mode again
7. wait for Points Balance to be updated
8. close panel and load your saved game, resume a previous game or start a new one.
* You must be logged with the very same account you used to purchase your DLC(s) or to redeem your promo code(s)

You only have to proceed this way on your first load after each DA:O launch. Once this is done, you can directly load saved games during the same session.

If the above steps do not solve your issue, the next step is to try to launch the Dragon Age Updater service prior to launching the game. For this, exit the game if it is already running, Open Windows main menu, select Run..., type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. In the Services window, look for Dragon Age: Origins - Updater service. Right-click on this service and select Start in the contextual menu. Once the service has started, close the Services window, relaunch the game and repeat the above steps.

You may also find useful information about the Dragon Age Updater service here.

I was having a problem with GoA DLC- I payed it started downloading and stopped at 70%- server issue ??? Then I went to DLC menu again it was there and stayed at 0% at weeks now. I read alot of input from my fellow fix finders and you all --HemisH, JackM, and my own advice given and common sense shared throughout prevailed.

In my case anyway- I went to the config utitlity and used repair to clear cache hoping it would maybe cause any gunk in the auto-update for DLC to solve issue, no dice.

I downloaded the GoA content manually -changed the .zips to dazips (after remebering to uncheck disabled file extensions in folder options, VERY IMPORTANT!) after that zips turned to dazips I opend the stock BIOWARE DAUpdater and installed them manually. Installed fine now I have GoA, hurrah! Amazing fix was so simple. I just wasn't that pressed until I wanted to play it, I guess. Only thing is in the downloding tab it still has it there at 0% even though it is in the installed category, authorized, and it is in the campaigns menu on the main startup screen and works! ANy ideas how to get that false DL status bar out? Thanks to all of you and your great advice.

I was having problems with error 5 and error 1069 to do with permissions and such,
I had to go to:
right click and service properties >
Log on tab >
Click the "This Account" button and also hit "Browse.." >
Click on "Advanced" >
Find Now >
Select Local services and click OK.

The service should now run and DLC working - hope this saves somebody more time than I spent messing :)

this solved my problem finally...thank you so much

Hi,

At the moment i have DA:O with the latest patch and its a non steam version.
Ok so I downloaded witch hunt earlier yesterday and had it start to download i think it got to like 20% before i left for work when i came home from work it had "Lost connection from dragon age servers please try again"
So I've logged out then logged in, when i go to check my downloads progress its just sitting at 0% and not moving at all.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to fix this,

Thanks,

Drunk

I don't see any Dragon Age service listed within my services at all... Maybe that's why I have no access to any DLC.

I have the Steam, Digi Deluxe version. Anyone have an idea how to get the service installed?

Tried doing that as per HemisH's 3.2.2 portion of his guide. Unfortunately, it won't install. I get the following error:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///H:\\\\\\\\Steam\\\\\\\\steamapps\\\\\\\\common\\\\\\\\dragon' or one of it's dependencies.
Seems it can't see anything within a folder that uses spaces rather than underscores... This on 64-bit Vista, no less. Reminds me of the LFN (long file name) days of Windows 95 LOL

Edit:
Tried the method outlined on the link you provided and it did manage to install the service. I guess anytime I want to play, I'll have to Start the service manually. That sucks...
The DLC is now installing, though. Now I'm wondering if I should just do a complete uninstall and start over from scratch, while making sure Steam is in fact running with admin privileges during the DA:O install.
Frustrating to say the least...

Hi folks,

I can't start the service (point 3.2 in the FAQ), and so i don't see any DLC.

I have reinstalled the service 5 times with success, but still it won't start.

I tried reinstalling the Framework 4.0, 3.5 but kinda faild with 2.0
Did all with admin acess!

I am a litle bit desperate here. (Will reinstall the game now with steam in admin modus and hope for help soon)

I have WIN 7 64 Bit, Steam Version.

Please help me!

EDIT:

reinstalling with steam in admin mode helped it is downloading now!

Once you have purchased a DLC or redeem a promo code, the DLC should download automatically in-game (Downloadable Content panel to follow this operation) assuming that you are logged in using the very same account you used to purchase the DLC or redeem its promo code.

I upgraded to windows 7 and had to reinstall dragon age. While I was downloading all my DLC's back, I got disconnected from my EA profile, and then my warden keep and return to ostagar dlc became unauthorized. After following the instructions on how to remove and reinstall the 2 dlcs, all came back fine and working. Thanks.

I just got the DLC content and have tried to install it. Unfortunately, the Steam version has updated my game to 1.04, but the DLS installer is saying that it isn't that. I'm not sure what to do now.

Thank u for this excellent unofficial post.

I can finally download my dlc. (thanks to the 3.2.4 section)

It's a shame that Bioware does nothing like clic'n'work. Never had so much trouble with a game to work properly.

Thank you so much! Had trouble downloading Warden's Keep. Was stuck at 0%. Clearing the cache and restarting the service didn't resolve, but deleting the manifest.xml solution worked like a charm! Excellent-excellent work with the FAQ.. you are truly the Grey Warden of DAO, the software!

Well, I just purchased Witch Hunt for my game and it will not download, stays at 0%. Have tried all the steps available, deleting the manifest.xml did nothing. Clearing the download cache allows the download to progress to 5 or 6% before stalling again.

I am extremely reluctant to delete the rest of my DLC because of the immense difficulty I had in getting that to work in the first place. Is this my only option?

I have the Steam version with Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep and Blood Dragon Armour.

Any help would be great.

I have a problem with the DLC for my game. When I start my game I'm not logged in to my profile. I have much DLC that I still need to download, but when I do so I have to log in to my account in order to do so. Now when I'm logged in, I'm suddenly unauthorized to use any DLC I had previously installed and that DLC also appear in available content even though they shouldn't. In my profile it says that I have The Stone Prisoner, Feastday Pranks & Gifts, Blood Dragon Armor and Witch Hunt(but that one doesn't show among the installed content in-game). I have registered my game and I was logged in to my profile when I downloaded these DLCs. So what the **** is wrong?

EDIT: Never mind. The updayer had stopped working and the problem is now solved(I hope). I had already restarted it once so I figured it'd still be working. Apparently not. Silly me.
