I don't mind if I never see the characters again, actually. What I do mind is when the characters you've played or created ARE brought into a new game, but the choices you made and the resolutions you achieved are undone for the sake of the new story.
NWN2 - hated what they did to my character in Mask of the Betrayer. Not a new game, an expansion, but still I didn't like it and never completed the expansion. KotOR 1 & 2 - you save the world, make romantic choices (such as they were), and in the sequel I left Carth? Never!
So the Elder Scrolls model works for me. Same world, different place and characters. Some general mention of earlier/historical events without details, but don't screw with the choices I made and then unmake them.
Warden = King/Queen impact on Dragon Age 2?

It's REAL easy. Just make the entire game take place in Orlais. Your royal status is meaningless in the grand scheme.
Besides, It's Bioware. Even if you start in Denerim, Depending on your dialogue choices you'll lose everything in the first 10 minutes. Your spouse will either outmaneuver you and give you the boot or you'll mutually agree that you'll undertake some mission which winds up with your royal status being either A) Stripped, [dishonored] or
utterly useless. [if game takes place in a foreign country]
That said I really don't see playing the same character for DAO2.
NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer was utterly bizarre. I mean just downright... strange.

Well, what happens is you depart Denerim under circumstances much darker than anyone would have believed, and they come as you rest. Figures cloaked in mist that cloud your thoughts, blurring the lines between consciouness and dreaming. There's no malice, or hatred, no mention of an old score: only quick capture and the promise of grim deeds to come.
So I get godlike abilities?

Chances are you won't be playing as your Warden in the sequel. Sucks and all, but that's just how these things go.

Another viable option would be for the new character of DA 2 to meet your former Warden as an NPC (with the original appearance) in whatever role the former Warden would be in .
Voice-over can be done with generic male/female akin in Mass Effect.
