So I've seen people make their choices based on whether they're good or evil, very D&D alignment based like. But has anyone played the game and made choices soley based on what's good for the Grey Wardens? My first play through I'm basically playing Lawful Good with a good morale code.

Next time I play thorugh, I'm thinking of taking Duncan to heart and play strictly for what is best for the Grey Wardens and what is to stop the blight.

My first play through I did all the "good stuff". I was the ideal Grey Warden, was nice to everyone, saved everyone, helped everyone and it was a pretty rewarding ending. I am on my 4th play through now and I am doing the exact opposite. The only one who likes me is my dog and Morrigan. I use Shale as my tank and I am siding with all the "wrong" allies. I just picked up the Blood Mage specialization and I am going to the opposite of everything I did the 1st time round. So far so good. I also played a female noble rogue my 1st time, and this time I made myself an evil male blood mage. Made it easier to "get into character".

The thing is, from my perspective, playing a character who works whole heartedly "for the grey wardens" would be best served by someone who makes choices that would benefit the wardens in the long run, not just for this Blight but as far as possible work towards results that he or she thinks would be best in the long run for the wardens.

One example would be for example the choice of putting Alistair or Anora on the throne. In my mind having Alistair as King would be a no brainer, being a grey warden himself would mean that he would be in position to see changes made in policy and help the grey wardens rebuilt and grow back into the power that it was in times past. The trick though, is keeping Alistair in power but that is another kettle of fish and as far as risk versus rewards go, the rewards would definitely be worth the risk.

Playing as the classic kill everything you see "pure" evil character though, (I prefer to think as these as evil stupid) isn't the way to go nor would the "Stupid Good" I will not tell a lie paladin wanabe be any better.

I find trying to do D and D alignment style playing just doesn't work in DA, unless you are playing neutral. Good or evil just don't work the same way.

I tried playing my favorite alignment, chaotic neutral, and it got shot down the moment I had to do Orzammar. A chaotic neutral would more or less, instead of installing a new king, try and start riots and get the Casteless to bring society down to its knees, then recruit them.
